The EE braggers thread!!!

My gal is named Gracie. We got her and our roo last spring and they both have excellent temperaments. We are brand new to chickens so I really am at a loss with the baby. It enjoys attention but is very clear what it does and doesn't like. It'll peep loudly till u pick it up but it doesn't want to be touched or pet. I was holding it yesterday and turned my attention to my daughter for a moment only to look back and find my wrist bloody and the chick happily pecking away! I have some neuropathy so didn't feel it. It appears to enjoy spending time w/the older chicks but always goes for their eyes...and toes. I think I understand the pecking order thing but will this chick ever relent? Any advice would be appreciated and thank you for your post :)

@Mr Beaks in order to respond to a specific person in the thread, you can click on the quote ( " )button on their comment (near the bottom right of the box containing their comment). This will make a copy of all the text and pics in their comment, they you can say what you want in response. It is helpful for providing context, especially if there have been a few posts before you were able to respond.

Another way is what I did above. Type the @ symbol (or capital 2, as my boss calls it) and start typing the person's username. As you are are typing, the site will auto-fill with possible usernames in a drop-down menu, so double check to make sure you are choosing the correct person. It is a little different if you are using a smart phone to access the site.

Using either of those methods, the site should alert the member that you are addressing that person, but also allow others in the thread to read it.

That chick sounds scary. I don't think a full-grown chicken has ever drawn blood from me (other than a rooster attack), much less a chick! And I am pretty thin-skinned! :)

@Mr Beaks I wanted to add, your roster and Gracie are beautiful! When I was little, my mom had an EE rooser that looked a lot like yours, maybe more white, and she named him Bright Eyes. :) He was very sweet.

Quick update:

After reading everyone's thoughts on sexing I spent some time outside with the chicks. The White chick I posted that was "spotty" as someone aptly described, has developed a little pink comb just as predicted. I always watch combs, but I am so delighted to reap the benefit of your coloring observations!!!!

Great call!

Thank you! Love the name Bright Eyes! Also, thank you for your posting tips. I am using my smartphone and if the post w/quote is long it won't let me type or scroll to the end of text to add. I'm sure I am the problem as I haven't taken the time to figure it out before posting. I did this w/Facebook years ago accidentally posting a very personal msg to my brother's wall :(

You can type at the beginning too, it is just more logical to me to respond at the end. You can also backspace pictures or texts as long as you don't get rid of the weird part that says
because that is code that is telling the computer what to do.

Ok, on the smartphone, there is an @ button at , so at the TOP of your reply box, you click that , and you get the same drop-down after you type a couple of characters. At least that is how it works on my phone.

Oh no, that is sad about the facebook mix-up! That is one of those moments in life that make you scramble for the "undo"" button.

I was referring to a life "undo" button, sometimes that could really come in handy! Or "rewind" and play so you can redo. Facebook doesn't have an "undo" button. In the last year or two they added an "edit/delete post" button, but sometimes by the time you get to realizing it, no telling how many people have already read whatever you did not intend for their eyes.

No problem. And good look with your flesh-eating chick. Yikes! i MAY have nightmares tonight...
