addressing the question af breeding size into your EE's:
I can't wait to see Steve's Cornish X EE birds they may not get taller but I expect them to have some heft!
I have been using only very large Ams to cross with my EE's and this years batch is larger than the parents, I'm very pleased with that.
However my Super Layer Project, which is essentially an EE because there is Am in the crossing; I am breeding to be a smaller, thriftier green egg layer, with WL and RIR in the mix.

I like the way you are going with your project, behind you 100%. When I first started I was going for the heritage dual purpose thing but became disenchanted along the way. For myself personally I have grown to dislike the concept "dual purpose"; to me, and of course this is just my own opinion, I feel like you lose out a bit more than you gain.

I have three projects going full speed ahead:
My meat birds - breeding for healthy, fast growing, yet sustainable animals in both white and red colors.
My Royals - which are what you are referring to, the decendents of my really amazing hen; bred for lineage, longevity, heartiness, color, looks and above all else personality - The ultimate back yard bird.
My Super layers - a jumbo green egg a day, thrifty, pleasant and attractive - like I said earlier the Super layers can be considered EE as I did use an AM roo in the mix and they have beards, pea combs (most, still working on this) and lay green eggs.

thanks for your interest, they are all back a few pages on this thread & I'll post more come spring, I don't want to repeat myself to often and get boring or sound like I am pushing myself on people

I just bought 5 EE's today. They were all born in February. Beautiful birds. One of them appears to be a pure blooded aracauna based on the feather structure. Here's the kicker. . .4 of the five won a blue ribbon at the county fair and one was a grand champion and I only had to pay 15 for all!!!
