I don't know about other hatcheries, but I had a nice variety of colors in the Easter Egger chicks I purchased from My Pet Chicken.

You can see pics of some of them here (post 88):

This is another totally different color that didn't get her pic posted on post #88:

The Splash turned out really pretty:

Here's 3 of them at about 3 months - (the Buff Orpington and the Black Ameraucana are not from MPC)

That's what is so cool about EE's- the vast assortment of colors and patterns! Have been raising them for quite a few years now and due to my education received on BYC just recently discovered what breed they were! All along I had thought they were Ameracana's but am not at all disillusioned to find out that they are labeled "mutts". Just totally my opinion but I find the"all the same color" breeds of chicken boring to look at. Guess variety is the spice of life after all! Will post some pics of my EE's in the near future...

MPC is where I got my two as well. I will be ordering again from them early next summer. Good to know there is a chance I could get such beautiful colors!!(not that I don't love the looks of my two girls, of course)I actually ordered 5 EEs from them and all but 1 (my Daffodil, the yellow and orange one) were the black and gold striping, like my Blondie. Is that just the most common color for EEs, or is it just by chance I got 4 that all looked the same?

yomama - It's just the most common color from hatchery/feedstores. The ones I've hatched from local and shipped eggs (individual breeders) have all been quite different. It really just depends on what goes into the mix...what colors the roo and hen bring to the mix.

That red/white hen infront in POST: 1501 looks like one I got from Cackle Hatchery. I have 5 more that are similar to that one some have a little more reddish/buff coloring than others. I resently found me a I call it a blue wheaten EE rooster that I plan on cross to them and see what I get from those crossings. Any guesses what I might get?

Hi Everyone!
I love EE's and I finally got two hens this summer, and a couple weeks ago I got a rooster from someone who ordered a batch of EE's from Meyer. He is an awful baby, and a real sweetheart. He is afraid of pretty much all of the other birds for some reason, and prefers to follows and hang around with me, clucking away the whole time. It's pretty odd, actually

He cocks his head and looks me right in the eye when I talk to him. He lets my kids swing him in the hammock and falls asleep LOL!

Here is one of his feet, he has two crooked toes. I am trying to find out if I can do anything about those toes. Maybe splint them with something flexible and try to get them to straighten out? Anybody have any experience with that? Maybe I should post something over on the injuries section about it...
