My deepest apologies, I should have put quotation marks around "demoted." I was kidding. It was not I who demoted her and I think she's lovely!

I subscribed to this thread because I saw so many folks who seem to enjoy chickens without pretension and I like that.

Oh I wasn't offended, I figured you weren't stating your opinion, since you were on this thread, and not on one of the pure bred threads.

Oh I don't know about the choice of the word "pretension". I follow several different "Breed Threads" because I want to learn all that I can. I have six different breeds plus one EE in a flock of eleven. Other than two particular breeds I want to raise EE because of the SURPRISES of the birds and their eggs. But i do appreciate what folks are working toward in the Standard of Perfection. And i think that is is not the perception of the posters that our personal perception that may have cause the use of the word "pretension". Anyway, I feel comfortable with SOP values and the wonderful qualities of EE chickens.

Hi folks! Thought I'd share a picture of the cockerel I added back in April. Although it seems a lot safer for me to just call him an EE, he's actually an Ameraucana (

albeit imperfect) but I intend to use him over my EE gals. I know that the bleed through is undesirable if you're breeding blue Ameraucanas but I'm not and I rather like it! His hackles are solid blue, although the flash makes it appear otherwise. I plan to breed him to a solid blue pullet who was recently demoted to EE status and a plain ol' hatchery EE who lays the most enormous eggs of any hen in the flock (they're blue.)

Love this Rooster! He's awesome!

Dang! I want one of these! What would you call that feather pattern? Is there any place that you can get EE's with this color?

Ditto! These colors are spectacular. I must have missed the original posting of these two.

Technodoll! that is THE most beautiful hen i've ever seen! Jealous!!!!!

my 3 baby EE's arrive today from MPC and if any are even a teensy bit as gorgeous as those 2, i'll be thrilled! Congrats! where did you get them?

i LOVE my EE's they are so cute and funny. i have 5 of them and 15 hens total. one is "not right in the head" and so she is the lowest on the pecking order and has had a lot of her tail/rump area plucked for spite. when i go into the run she is like my little puppy and is under and around my feet for love and protection. she likes to be around me, fuzz face likes to make sure i know she is there and taps me, bella and gertude like to be verrrrrry vocal when i go in the run and talk to me and gertrude likes to help colect the eggs. dotty is the one that just does not care but is so cute. I LOVE THEM and the eggs are great---1 green, 2 blue, 1 pinkish, one cream.
my avitar is my CraZZZzzY girl-- Fuzz Face! (she is a nut!)

So when do these EE darlings start to lay eggs? I have 5 that are almost seven months, and only one is laying. She has been laying for almost a month now! She lays about 3 - 5 small light green eggs a week. How about your girls? When did they start laying, how many eggs, and are they small or large?

I do think that they are some of the smarter girls in my flock. THey seem to excell at problem solving such as 'how can I get my belly full without attracting the attention of the older girls?' ANd 'where can I find a roost where the older hens won't try to peck me to death?'
