What M To The Maxx means its that they are not recognized colors.
But I get what you are saying, I mean in my opinion people care waaaaaaaay to much about recognized colors and breeds. I mean just because they're are not recognized Barred EE's doesnt mean that she or he can't be called a Barred EE at the end of the day they are both chickens they both lay eggs and sometimes mutts have even prettyer colors then standard breeds. From whatv I've been reading on the forums seems like a lot of people look down on mutts and hatchery chickens and look at recognized breeds as superiors when they are really not.

cackleberrycoop - The only way to find out is to mate them and hatch out some eggs. I have a hen with a perfect pea comb that lays a pinkish rosy-brown egg so there's just no 100% rule when you're dealing with EEs. I personally love the diversity. If you don't like what you end up with you could sell the laying hens and still come out ahead.

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy - I don't know what 'color' he is but he looks quite handsome to me.

KatyTheChickenLady - Yay! My pullet (BellaLuna) hatched from Bob and Goldilocks finally started laying. Here's what I have laying so far.

1 - BellaLuna, White Ameraucana X EE, 12/23/2010 @ 39 wks
2 - Honey, Buff Orpington X Red Sex-Link, 12/27/2010 @ 32 wks
3 - Roulette, Wheaten Unknown Gamebird Mix, 1/3/2011 @ unknown age
4 - Lizzie, Black Copper Marans X EE, 1/5/2011 @ 31 wks (+4 days)
5 - Lady Jane, Feedstore EE, 1/8/2011 @ 32 wks


I have a bunch more EE's that I'm waiting on...I expect at least 3 more brown layers but I'm excited to see what all of them will lay. That's what I love about EE's, it's like a gift that you get to open twice...what they'll look like and what they'll lay.

Here's my one and only EE. She is a sweet lady, but very fussy/particular when it comes to physical contact. When she's in the mood, she'll jump onto my arm and perch on my shoulder like a parrot. When she is feeling cross, she won't even eat out of my hand and acts very skittish. That's why I named her Queen E. She is the coop' s little bit of royaly.

Yes EE's can be solid colors I have two girls that are solid white.

Yes EE's can be solid colors I have two girls that are solid white.

Ameraucanas are not all solid colors...there's Silver and Wheaten/Blue Wheaten...I'm not sure what others as they do not interest me, being mutts of EE X Other Stuff.

I have a solid white EE and a solid black EE. All my others are mixed colors.

No, actually, there are quite a few multicolored Ameraucanas. Silver, Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, and Brown-Red are such. Easter Eggers can have solid colors too, such as white. Most Easter Eggers were the original colored egg laying mutts we brought over from South America (but now with production layers crossed in), about half the Ameraucanas had some other blood in them way back there too, but a lot of their colors were also original.

Most Easter Egger colors CAN be labelled though, but only by people who know genetics. Black Beard for example is likely either a Black Breasted Red or a Brown-Red, but brown-red is very rare in Easter Eggers. I'd need to see his full wing to judge color.

Most Easter Eggers are black breasted red (gold duckwing) crossed with columbian, white, and sometimes blue.

This girl has a lot of the coloring of skyfire, but where skyfire has blue/grey, she is almost charcoal.
