The EE braggers thread!!!

Kassaundra - I did enjoy your pics. I especially love that first shot where one of the chickens is up in the air - I also think that Chocolate Cheeks is gorgeous and that is a nice pic of her.

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Black Beard - Standard EE Roo - I got him from a local BYC'er, he was going to become chicken soup on the 14th!

What color is he? What do you think of him?

Super pics of your EE's Kassaundra! Chocolate Cheeks is awesome! I do try to not be offended when some describe and label my chickens as "mutts". I have devoted quite a few years to breeding them to where they are consistant in coloration, egg color, nice small pea comb, leg color, etc. My chicks usually mature in only about three different colors and while they may not be any recognizable or so-called standard colors they are no less valuable to me or to other enthusiast that have bought chicks from me. One color I breed is silver, the same silver coloration I have seen in other so-called "pure breeds". I do realize that the reference to "mutts" mostly applies to the results of crossing stock of blue egg laying/ pea comb chickens with almost any pure-bred breed. I feel for sure that there are other breeders out there that have also put many years into their particular strain of "EE's" and do no outcrossing with other breeds. I do wish to offer a thank- you to whomever started this EE thread on here, I do enjoy all the varied colors displayed on here. Anyway, what's so interesting about a solid white chicken with a huge, floppy comb? (No offense intended or implied)

That's kind of what I thought, but didn't know if there was such a thing as a "Partridge" colored EE or not?

Thanks everyone, I think my girls are pretty too (I know I have one boy, but I call them the girls b/c I bought them as all girls, Oreo snuck by). They are one of my current favorite photography subjects, I've taken literally hundreds of pics. I think there is way too much angry words over the differences between EE's and ameraucanas. I don't "show" chickens I have them for my own enjoyment and gardening and love my girls and think they are the bomb no matter what label others give them. I do however agree those that sell chickens should be upfront w/ what they are selling, shouldn't say they are selling ameraucana or arucana when they are not. That being said it is no secret, when I got my girls (advertised as ameraucanas) I had never purchased birds before, but the least little bit of research makes it clear hatcheries sell EE's no matter what they are calling them.

I also get miffed at the vehimence of animosity SOME direct. And find it slightly amusing that the ameraucanas are such a new breed and so recently mixed w/ other breeds to get their "perfect color" (mixed as in "mutt" some may even say) I'm not trying to offend anyone, I think there is room for everyone's preference, and people can be proud of their chickens and admire other peoples chickens w/o negativity.

puredelight, I'm not sure I understand about the white chicken w/ big floppy comb?

are EE's good cold weather layers???? im asking because i have two EE's, one is not laying yet, and the other is. the one that is laying, stopped laying about 2 weeks ago, but she is not sick, she acts normal

I have to say that when I got my EE's-five pullet chicks-all I was thinking is that the colored eggs may help me sell more eggs to the city slickers at work. I was not very attracted to their "look"-and yes breed, mutt, whatever EEers seem to tend to have a "look"-bea!rds, muff, pea comb-kind of left me "eh". But in answer to your question-YES. My girls are laying like crazy. Now when the time changed production in all dropped to almost nil. So I added a light and voila I have eggs coming out of my ears. My husband said "Turn out the light!" My EE hens lay as well as the more traditional heavy large birds-my wyandottes, brahmas, Orpington and JG. So going from a opportunistic owner I have become an actual fan. I plan to let one of the girls hatch a clutch so not sure if I will have EE x EE or EE x other-all depends on who goes broody. My EE roo is so far a nice boy-gentlemanly, hefty, pea comb, beard, muff, feathered legs. Gimpy from dog attack but respectfull of us. Apparently doing his job but has never ever crowed.
OT but my hens free range and the EEers all survived a dog attack which left several dead and a few badly wounded. They can definitely fend for themselves. Plus the apparently common reddish, laced, brown colors of most of mine probably make them a less obvious target. They are plenty hardy. It has been cold here-twenties for the most part-some single digit dips and howling winds. Pretty tight coop with lots of big windows and only a light four hours a day. Free choice food and water, free range and leftovers. Everyone happy and thriving. I like em.
