The EE braggers thread!!!

Congrats Illia on your new egg layers.

I knew you would know the answer to the previous questions, as I read them I thought to myself, Illia will have those answers! lol

Well I think one might be one of the other combs. Its older then the one with the definant crown and its smaller bumps then the saw toothy looking one.

Thank you for answering my newbie questions.

My sneaky silver Easter Egger. (she's part true Araucana, part New Hampshire)

And, outside in the sun/shade. Although she tried invading the nest of a Marans, she never laid an egg today.

Her egg is on the bottom right. This was her first egg, a little soft in the shell. The next one was the same color but normal.

The Olive Egger's eggs are now always as dark as the middle right egg, so there's no mistaking OE vs EE.

Very nice hen. What is the ratio of tailed to rumpless and partially rumpless when you crossed Araucana to tailed?

Here's a few of my EE ladies...

This is Mean Bean, she's actually not mean anymore ... but she went through a strange little brat stage where she was always attacking our feet! Now she's very friendly and always the first one at your feet for treats.

Every year when everyone starts molting she drops almost ALL her feathers and looks ridiculous!

So I put my dog's old t shirt on her to hold in a little warmth, since this was in October!

This is a genetic thing I actually am stumped on. I think in the Chicken Calculator is says you get 50/50 tailed and rumpless, which I think would seem a fair thing to say, because this is how it panned out -

Araucana A x tailed bird = 2 rumpless, 3 tailed

Araucana B x tailed bird = 3 rumpless

Araucana C x tailed bird = 2 rumpless, 4 tailed

However, the thing is, a bunch of birds with tailed/non-tailed yet have either tails or no tails doesn't make sense. That's like saying a bunch of birds with one blue allele came out splash OR blue, or black OR blue. . . Just not possible. Now, there are some Araucanas out there with some floating, nasty tailed genes in them that throw tailed Araucanas, but I've yet to have that issue, so I don't think that is a factor in my birds. But, only time will tell. I haven't bred and hatched enough Araucanas to say for sure yet.

I just tried it on the calculator and it says:

pure rumpless x tailed = 100% impure rumpless.

impure rumpless x tailed = 50% tailed 50% impure rumpless.

I hate to think of it this way but unless the calculator is wrong then the Araucanas in breeding pen A and C were impure rumpless(Rp). On the other hand, heres what Dr. Albert McGraw wrote in this article http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Rump/Manx.html :

Through the long time frame that I have been affiliated with this breed, I have experimented with crossing a Manx Rumpie female with a conventional male and found, and not particularly to my dismay, I might add, that the offspring is not worthy of their feed. Such a mating produced a high percent of semi-rumpless birds; also, many of the chicks had the conventional tail, while something like 20-25% were completely rumpless. When using a female conventional bird with a Manx Rumpie male, all percentages resulting from the conventional male and the Manx Rumpie female, closely paralleled.

So then, my supposed to be pure rumpless male Araucana crossed with tailed EEs and others, could possibly give me a mix of tailed and rumpless EEs? Would I be correct in calling all offspring EEs?

PS. I am just going by the word of the lady that gave me the rooster that he is pure. One thing I know for sure, he is rumpless.
