The EE braggers thread!!!

CURSES! I knew it! What am I gonna do with 4 boys!?! The ONLY one I got on purpose was the Cochin cause after I took about 5 polls 90% of responders said this was the most docile roo they have dealt with. AND the Cochin was supposed to be partridge colored and he is buff AND I was supposed to get 2 Jersey Black Giants and I have NO idea what the birds are I got in their spot AND out of 5 supposed pullet EEs 2 are roos. Im irritated. Now at 8 weeks it is kinda late to do much about it with the hatchery and kinda too late to go get a couple more pullets-even started birds I think.

Dang!! Where did you get them?

lauriruth they came from Ideal Hatchery. I e mailed hubby and said Ill make a craigslist ad to send them on their way and he says I should keep em unless they become trouble cause they are so pretty and personable AT THIS POINT. I dont know what to do. I read a thread about removing spurs yesterday. I guess Ill keep that one close. Right now there are 3 vultures the size of small airplanes partolling the chicken yard. Im praying my wire & net cover is tough enough.

EggRookie,
the vultures won't hunt them. they aren't birds of prey. are you sure they aren't hawks? if they are, throw another layer of netting on top and secure it as best you can. i got mine from My Pet Chicken and had to rehome one EE roo. he was my fav, of course. he went to a dairy farm with 10 kids, but it was very traumatic...still if if i let myself think about him! Are you in a rural area or city? I'm smack in the middle of San Antonio and we can't have roos at all!!! PERIOD! if you can keep roos, i would keep a couple if you have space. i feel for you. Will Ideal give you a refund, at least? MPC guarantees 90% accuracy in sexing, and will give you a free pullet chick next time you order.

I have hawks nesting in the barnyard with babies ready to fledge. Not too thrilled about them. These birds today were vultures but cruising just 10 feet above the run and the coop next door too in kinda a low level reconnaissance mission. Monsters. I havent called Ideal yet. I am rural on 5 acres and everyone around me has some sort of birds or livestock too. The roosters dont bother anyone here. So I guess Ill try to keep them all and hope for the best. They ARE pretty boys and so far I am enjoying all of them. There are 16 in total and I have a 15 x 22 run and an 8 x 10 coop.

I ordered 16 birds...only ONE of which was supposed to be cockerel. I have 4. The whole order is messed up really. I did not get the Jersey Giants I asked for (I dont know what they are but it isnt that) and my cochin is a different color and I have all these boys. Pity party for one!

Call Ideal and voice that you are an unhappy customer. You can be nice about it but you did not get what you ordered and payed for. The Poultry business is big business and it needs to keep standards. If customers do not complain the companies will become worse. You are helping all of us if you voice your dissatisfaction.
