The EE braggers thread!!!

I ordered cuckoo marans pullets from the hatchery 25 When they arrived I knew they weren't cuckoos. call and let them know. They said they would get color later to call back in 2 weeks. these birds remained jet black. at 4 weeks they returned my money all I was out was the shipping and still had 25 black pullets good layers but not what I ordered

I ordered from Ideal last year......I ordered 6 Dark Brahmas, 4 Cochin

I got 3 Cochin 1 which died, (the fourth is a partridge Brahama) the dark Cochins were all correct, I ended up with a Partridge Rock and a mystery chick that was killed at about 4 months. The only reason I didn't really fuss was because amazingly they were all hens!! But I will never order again from them.

No I don't think it is I did call and they offered to correct the errors, but since they were all hens and I just want eggs it was OK.

They may tell you that 8 wks. isn't old enough to tell for sure. that's what happened with MPC when i called about my roo that was crowing at 6 wks. !!! they said hens can sometimes crow....they ended up being very nice about it later when there was NO doubt about his sexual orientation. i got a free chick on my next order.

Hello, I have a genetics question. I have what I thought was Ameraucanas. Now after reading all the info I think they are EE's. I have one who lays xlg sage/olive eggs. I am wanting to expand my flock this year. In my hunting I ran over a Splash Maran 2 month old roo. If I mate the Splash Maran to my EE who is a copper red, green egg layer will they produce dark brown, green, or blue eggs. I plan on getting black copper maran's and Ameraucans/EE pullets this year. I know the splash mixed with black makes blue marans. So, I'm hoping next year to have blue maran's as well as EE's. I love the great egg colors they can produce. So far I just have brown and green eggs.

olive egger plus dark brown egger results in darker olive egger. To get blue eggs you need birds with only blue egg gene.

sage colored eggs are the result of blue and brown genes mixed together.

How fun. You do have a pretty good chance of getting some offspring who lay green eggs, but equally as great a chance at brown egg layers. I have to say, in my personal experience with Marans roosters over green egg layers, I get far more brown egg layers than I get the green layers, but the brown eggs from the mix are fantastic! Have fun experimenting!

For egg color - You'll get a 50/50 on brown eggs, and on a good olive colored egg. And I mean a good colored olive!

As for plumage - Splash Marans x typical Easter Egger = Blue EE's with a lot of brown, depending on if there's columbian involved or not, is how the patterning will play out.
