I'm interested in the sex of chicks based on feather color. I know it's largely difficult to tell, especially since mine are so young, but I guess you could say I'm obsessing over it simply because I've already got one BR pullet who is definitely a roo, and I don't know I can have another! My chicks are all around 3.5 to 4 weeks at this point.
I posted pictures the other day, but I think these are a little better of my "girls".
A pretty good view of Lady's back and face. She's so much bigger than the others!
A front view of lady, with Wendy laying down in front. They're both larger than the BR/RIR/?? chicks, but they were from the beginning, so they're probably 4 weeks old.
And lastly, here's Wendy by herself with Henri the BR roo.
But yeah, if there's any kind of comprehensive way to tell as the chicks feather in what their sex would be, that's the kind of information I'm looking for. I know the other signs to look for- reddness in waddles and combs, larger 3 rowed pea combs, pointy saddle feathers, tree trunks for legs, crowing... but they're too young for all of that!
Thanks, Ilia... and everyone else! I'm a total n00b.
