The EE braggers thread!!!

Yes, Cute chickens. I'm so glad to have finally located the EE site:weee The site with those 'other birds' that lay colored eggs didn't seem to like EE's

I also have a young silver/bluish she is the tamest of the 9.

Forgive me for not reading this entire thread, 402 pages .... I do have a question, that may have already been addressed.

If making EEs. Orps x Ams, would I look to keep the peacombed chicks only?? Am I understanding this correctly..... peacombed hens "should" lay blue/green eggs ? Straight combed hen will lay brown/pink/other ? Or is the peacomb just preferred ?

Thanks for any info

If the Ameraucana parent is homozygous for the O gene(blue egg gene) and pea comb, all of the offspring will have pea combs and lay blue to green eggs. The F1s if mated back to a single combed bird would produce as follows:

50% pea combed birds

50% single combed birds

Of the 50% pea combed birds, half would have the O gene.
Of the 50% single combed birds, only about 3% would have the O gene.

So to answer your question, just because the bird in question has a pea comb, does not mean it will lay blue/green eggs. The blue/green egg layers will almost always have pea combs, but the pea combed hens will not necessarily lay blue/green eggs.

I am assuming you meant Easter Eggers, they are very different from Araucanas. I get about five eggs a week from my almost four year old hens. But I cannot say you will get the same results.

Araucanas are rumpless and have tufts. Ameraucanas are larger, have a tail, lack tufts, and have beards/muffs. ETA: also, Araucanas have yellow skin whereas Ameraucanas have white skin.

I believe the gold and grey one is a Gold Duckwing. I have a silver duckwing myself, and she is pretty!

Congrats, she's going to be a beauty!
