The EE braggers thread!!!

I just met someone today who has been working on an Easter egger/ Ameraucana/ Leghorn cross for the last 5 years. He has bred them out to be homozygous for blue genes and was at my ranch looking for darker blue eggs to richen up the color of his. I thought it was a neat project when he was explaining it to me.

I am going to give it a try... what could it hurt? The worst that could happen is that I have more layers

I have one of such crosses. Her eggs are slightly more blue than my EE's. Here's a picture of her egg, it's the bottom one. She's one of my favorite pullets!

How long has she been laying? Pretty eggs!

The leghorns where going to be my layers but I may just toss one in the EE pen with my EE roo and she what happens. May toss another one in the Ameraucana pen and see what happens too...

Anybody have EEs from Purely Poultry? I'm inclined to order my huge 75-100 pullet order from them next spring because thy are the first ones I've seen to be TOTALLY honest about them and call them Easter Eggers and not some bastardization of Araucana or Ameraucana.

I hope the birds are decent? I will be getting them for re-sale, my clients want fairly calm and attractive birds that are decent layers of colored eggs.

FYI several other hatcheries name them correctly also. have you read in the hatchery section for info on Purely Poultry? Your Q might get answered there.

Our EE are nice, from MM.

The pea combed pullets will lay blue eggs, but most likely the eggs wont be near as vibrant blue as the pure Ameraucana.

While the eggs may not be a vibrant blue, I will be happy with blue and the Leghorn should add size to the egg and increase # eggs. A compromise that works for me.

Our almost 8 month old EE, Pheasant. She has still not started laying eggs, or is very good at sneaking off and laying them. She also gets picked on by all the other hens and has become a loner, usually not following the rest of the flock while out foraging and hiding out under our trailered boat during the day. I sneak her treats when the others aren't around.

I used a EE rooster over a red sex link and she lays a large sage green egg daily and she is going on her second year. I think that any mix which includes a production bird especially the hen, will lay a larger egg often

She is a beauty ! I wonder why she is lowest on the pecking order ? And that may be one reason that it has taken her so long to lay. In fact she may sense her lack of laying is one reason to be the lowest ! Who knows but I hope her eggs will be beautiful and plentiful some day soon.
