last night i couldnt find America she wasnt in the coop in her usuall spot i was so scared a dog got her.. knowing she was gone i started walking the property with a flashlight looking for my baby girls feathers.. walk all over the place and couldnt find her. so i decided to wait til morning to look some more went in to my barn grabbed some food for my goats and went to go feed them and put them up for the night..
there was america in the freezing water trough..

she had drowned

i feel like such a jerk i should have been out there more!! its one thing to have your chicken die because a preditor comes and gets them but to have it DROWN!! something compleatly preventable.. my heart sank instantly

i miss my baby girl she was so adorable! and cant feel like its my falt she suffered such a horrable fate

So sorry about America.You didn't expect that and you really couldn't help it. We had that happen with a couple Bantys So my hh(handy hubby) covered two thirds of the tank with plywood and no problems after that.
I have mostly silkies now & no horses. I decided to have just one breed. I have one EE that looks like yours. I decided to keep her because she is such a character! she follows me around & "talks" to me all day!
I'm sure you have some wonderful memories of America and hopefully that will help you through this. They are like family.

I thought I would show how my first hatch of EE chicks turned out, starting with the cockerels! I will show them all - but I'm finding that it takes a lot a time to get good photos of them all! I really am pleased with how they look - I can hardly take my eyes off of the cockerels, especially, but the pullets are gorgeous, too. I'm tempted to keep one or two of them, but most are looking for homes if I can find flocks for them. (If anyone is interested, just PM or email me.) These are all from a clean-faced, white sport of wheaten ameraucana rooster from halo and EE hens that laid either a green or blue egg.

First the red ones: "Antonio"

"Fabio" - I love the "blond" hackles and the blue edged with red tail.

A blue splash - I suspect the mother of this one and the next was a blue "OE" that was also from halo's eggs - a blue rock X EE breeding. The hen lays a green egg.

Had to put an extra photo of this one in, because I love the shading on the feathers!

I suspect this one was from a black "OE" also from halo's blue rockXEE eggs; the mom laid a green egg and had a muff and beard.

Another one with lots of blue in the tail - I need to check with halo to see if the rooster actually came from a blue wheaten ameraucana breeding - there seems to be lots of blue in the chicks, but I only had the one blue hen.
