Pardon my odd question...
I have heard that with EEs leg color indicates egg color? Green legs for green layers, and slate legs for blue? Is this just an old wife's tale? And how soon can you identify leg coloring in young chicks?

There is no link to the egg / leg color. The only visual trait that has been "linked" to the egg color is a pea comb vs non pea comb. The pea's will have much higher percentage of colored egg laying (either form of green or blue depending on the genetics of the parentage) but that is not 100%

So green legs = green eggs and slate legs = blue eggs is apocryphal? ****. That would make culling my cute little chickies so much easier(We have room for two more hens, but had to order a minimum quantity from the hatchery. We have a few EEs and few Wellsumers, keeping only one of each).

I would sell the extras online or something. especially if you think they're girls. The EE's always sell first and get the best price at our local auction.

My plan is to sell them, both the extra EEs and the Wellsumers, which should cover my initial purchase, shipping, and food. No problems there.
But I don't have room to raise them all to egg laying age, just till they are feathered and can go outside. It would be nice to be able to take egg color into account when selecting which of the cute little EEs we plan on keeping, rather than just feather coloration and personality.
I've been been looking through this thread, admiring all the beautiful girls you folk have, and I can't wait to see how my little EEs turn out!

X2. Yeah, I'm not sure exactly how it works. I think if your crossing a easter eggers with something else, if they have pea combs they have a 75% chance of laying colored eggs.

I think it is higher than that... in the 90% or higher range. BUT don't believe statistics .... but they are a good start. I have seen straight combed blue egg layers and pea combed brown egg layers. Happens a lot more than you would think.

From what I always hear, it is a 98% chance or something, however, if you cross to a peacombed brown or white layer, good luck

Absolutely no link to leg color considering purebred true Araucanas all have green legs, and most lay a good blue egg.

What if you have an EE roo and a EE hen? Colored eggs? Provided they both have pea combs?

What exactly is an EE? I thought they were an Ameracuana parent crossed with any other breed of parent. As long as one of the parents is an Ameracauna that it could be crossed with anything else. No?
