The EE braggers thread!!!

What do you call a comb hat has nothing raised? It looks like a "skid mark" if I had to describe it.

Her comb kinda looks like a rose comb. But its probably just a mix of genetics that gave it its own odd flat pea comb. Do you have a full body pic of her I like her coloring and would love to see a full body shot

I just hatched 14 new EE

most are black some are blue

1 kind had a chipmunk pattern in black and gray, but very light.... can't wait to see what that turns into.

I looked on The 8 Comb Types under the "Learning Center" to see the different types of combs. Since some were drawings, I went to the breed section to see how it looks on a real chicken. From what I've noticed, mature females don't seem to get combs as large as the roos, and immature females' combs often just barely resemble the comb type. Since EEs are by definition crosses, the combs that they end up with may not be representative of the pea type. (If showing a purebred, this would result in disqualification.)

It's hard to tell from your pics, but my EE pullet (at 14 wks) has a single raised ridge down the center of her comb area, and it slopes off on either side. In profile, she looks like your white pullet.

Is your top pic a pullet or cockerel? Age? My 14 wk cockerel's comb looks just like the one in The 8 Comb Types. This could be an immature male, but maybe a pullet with an indistinct pea comb. I see reddish color on the wings, but it looks more evenly distributed, so I'm thinking pullet. (?) Need a better pic.
I don't have exact ages on the EE's because I bought them from someone else. The white one, I'm told, should start laying in a couple of weeks so I'm guessing her age to be 3 1/2 months. The "black" one, I'm estimating to be a week or two younger (cam from a different place. I'm hoping pullet

. I haven't seen the tell-tale mahogany color on the wings (some brown) but I've been told on the EE sexing thread that's it's likely male. The flat comb keeps the hope alive that "he" is a "she. I have a hard time getting close to these two. The white one is still in "new bird quarantine" so she has no where to go but it's not easy to get photos of a bird that hides when I come near. I can't even tempt her with mealworms in my hand (she'll eat them in the feed, but won't eat the corn-on-the-cob that I put on the floor for her that the other chickens go crazy for - I eventually gave it to them).

I have a third EE and he has the true pea comb and rusty-red coming in the wings so I'm sure it's a boy. He is a month younger than the darker one and will eat out of my hands (and boy does he peck hard!).

Here's a good pic of the comb.
Sorry for the camera angle. I fixed it on my computer but adding this photo twice doesn't seem to get it in here correctly.

As requested by Chicken Pickin, full body shot of the white EE.

I picked this lovely girl out because I was more certain that this body coloring would mean girl. There were some pretty blue EE chickens too but I was afraid of it possibly being a roo if I chose wrong. I already had the gray one I posted earlier as certain cockerel, and the black/multi as a possible roo so I tried to "hedge my bets" so to speak.

Here's the black/multi EE
(sorry for the blurry photo, but he/she was running away - I haven't been able to make friends with him/her yet)

Thank you, Marlowmanor. I hope you are correct and I do have two pullets. It would make me so happy.

Mine are just 5 weeks old...well they will be tomorrow anyways :) I had ordered 5 hens and 1 roo...of course of the 23 chickens I got total ... 2 of my EEs had to go missing!!! so now I only have 3 hopefully hens and my one white roo...none have any type of comb or waddle growth yet
barnie.gif

So I will be getting more next year :) but I was thinking that maybe if I put my roo over my current hens would that work??? I have a hamburg hen (lays a white egg)...would they have blue eggs? and Sussex hens ( a brown egg) and would make a green egg, right, and marans... olive eggers? or should I just buy more EE's or maybe Ameraucana or Araucanas???

You could make more EE's for yourself with those crosses :) I haven't lost any EE's, but I still wish I had ordered more because they are just my favorites! I have a Light Brahma and silver laced Polish I want to put with them just to see what I get ;)

My Easter Eggers came from MPC at the end of May last year. I got my first egg which was green on Halloween. I cried, the best trick or treat ever. Three of mine lay mint green, one lays olive, one lays pink, she has a different comb and the one that lays pale blue is a wheaten with slate legs.
