The EE braggers thread!!!

I've been thinking something along those lines! It's just I don't know if it fits them yet or not ... but good suggestions!
I'll definitely keep them in mind.

I didn't even know there was such a thread ... I shall have to go in search of it!

Those are good too, any other spice names anyone can think of? :)
Vanilla (even though it is more brown) and nutmeg

I love this coloring pattern! What is it called? Laced? Partridge? Lartridge?

I think I know even less about patterns than colors! Lartridge works for me!

Two more weeks or so and you will have eggs!

You have all these new cute animations! Wouldn't it be fun if it really happened like that? We could start a new sport!
Taking my son to Yosemite at the end of the month. With my luck, that's when the first egg will come, and I'll miss it.

My Easter Eggers have hatched. Hooray! 12 made it to the hatcher and 10 came out. Most of them are quite dark, which is a bit of a surprise to me. 4 hatched from brown eggs (their mother is an EExRIR cross) and 6 from blue eggs (black Ameraucana and 2 regular wild-type EEs). The fathers were a buff Ameraucana, a blue/lavender split EE, and possibly a black Ameraucana. I think I will actually band these so I can compare their chick down to their adult colors.

The cute chick stage is toooo short! If you try the banding, I hope you post pics of how the chicks turn out. After seeing so many gorgeous blue/gray EEs, I would love to be able to tell what color chick to look for to get a blue/gray adult.

I have 10 day old ameraucana's:) They aren't EE's but close enough

My EE roo was killed, but I do plan to make some SLW cross EE's next year. He was a splash, such a pretty guy. I'm so sad that he went.

That was him. I'll get chick pics as soon as they all dry off xD

The bands are on their way... You should be able to tell blue or splash chick down at hatch. Blue chicks will be a slate grey color with creamy accents (belly, light markings on the face) while splash chicks will be a smokey grey color. If it's lavender you're looking for in adult plumage, there are lots of pictures of lavender Ameraucana chicks over on the Ameraucana thread. Once the bands get here, I plan to take a picture of each chick at the time it is banded, again at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, and then once fully feathered. I bought the spiral bandettes for them as babies and numbered bands for juvenile to adult size. Since I have only hatched one batch of EEs this season I'm not toe-punching them.

I just want to brag on my little EE, Ebony. (I think)

Soon after letting everyone out of the coop this morning, all the chickens were on high alert letting me know something was wrong....except for Ebony!!!!
ep.gif
She was pecking the heck out of a baby rat!!!! It was so funny! She would give it a couple hard pecks and then tell it a thing or two and then commence at her pecking!
gig.gif
I'm guessing it was in her food dish and she didn't appreciate the "feed thief" one bit. Ebony didn't eat it fortunately but she has her first kill!
big_smile.png
Maybe she has some hawk in her!

Wow, what beautiful EEs everyone has!
I love seeing how many different colors they come in

I have 3 of them and they are the sweetest things!

Paprika's my oldest, she was one of the two originals that got me started ... unfortunately I had to find a new home for her hatch-mate that had turned into a roo :(
She started out as a dark brown chick, and she's certainly changed since then!

White EE I got 4 days ago and haven't found the right name for!
Really nice though, she's settled right in with Paprika and my two Barred Rocks:

Annd the most recent, just picked her up yesterday so she's still a little skittish and hasn't found her place in the flock yet.
I think she's going to be a sweetheart when she settles in:

Suggestions for names on the last two are more than welcome ;)
How about Sugar and Ginger for these last two ladies!

Your white one looks exactly like my white EE. I named mine Angel because she got the prettiest wings as a chick. I also have a black EE, so probably should have named them Ebony and "Ivory" but Angel stuck!

Last spring I moved a board and a tree from jumped out. He was a gonner before I could get to him...The big girls are fast when they see a "treat"

Long time ago, one of my EEs ran over, grabbed a fence lizard, dashed it on the patio concrete really quickly (wham-wham-wham!), and swallowed it down in one gulp! It was amazing how much she looked like a hunting dinosaur from Jurassic Park. Her ancestry was showing, half chicken, half Velociraptor!
