The EE braggers thread!!!

Here are the new EE's that I got Saturday.

This rooster will go back through the sale next time. Way too much white on the neck and I don't care for the red leakage on the black wings. Single comb and no beard. I feel like EE rossters should be bearded.

This was the best shot I could get of this rooster. I really like his coloring, but again I will put back through the next sale. Single comb and no beard.

I really like the coloring of this pullet. I've never had an EE that looked like this. She's a keeper I think. Her comb is single in front and peacomb in the back, although she has no beard, I think she'll work for me since my rooster will have a beard.

I also got another pullet that I didn't phograph because she was acting crazy. Maybe later.

I bought these thinking they were rumpless, but after I got them caught up and checked they are going to be tailed, they just lost their tail feathers. They sure looked rumpless the way that the wings and saddle feathers were hanging. Oh well, rumpless will come later.
thats is one pretty roo the pullet is pretty cute too

Afternoon everyone, Well My babies are 20 weeks and 2 days and 2 of the 3 are laying, 1 is a beautiful green blue egg, So today I sat out there and got the surprise of my life !!!
The pullet laying that pretty little egg is my SLW/ EE cross, I thought for sure the tan egg was hers, the other 2 pullets are from Fileen and Graybread, my 2 EE's.
So I have a genetics questions for you experts......... WTH? how did this happen?
I was under the assumption that in order for an EE to lay Blue/green eggs, she had to inherit a colored egg gene from both her parents? Well Graybeard is a splash wheaten wildtype with a pea comb, and Fileen is ? for color tan and grays, pea comb, but she herself lays a very lite almost pink egg, so I was hoping she still carried the gene and bred back to gray beard her brother, well same hatch, probably same rooster, that I would get at least 2 pullets that would give me a colored egg.............. well now that I see Lacy laying that egg, I'm shocked, and I'm quite sure that she is my SLW chick because I only took 1 egg from Shimmer, and Lacy has her comb and body type, with black lacy looking feathers and not a pea comb????????????? I'm so confused......Help
This is GrayBeard.
This is Fileen.

This is Shimmer my SLW.
Lacy...
Molly.
Pepper..

All of them are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

So my boy Captain Morgan I posted a while ago back, In the breeding to my EE Hens, Only the Boys get his color. The girls have none of Dads color what so ever and look like their mums. Breeding him to my Barred Rock hen, Produced beautiful pure black pullets and very clearly defined Barred Son with dark black and bright white barring. Breeding him to my Recessive white ( barred Cochin Hen) Produced Very clearly defined barred Son as well, as for the only daughter this cross has produced so far she was Blue as a chick. breeding to my non traditional colored or sport fav has only produced boys and they two are black and white like dad.
I am in Love with all the offspring he has produced they are even mild mannered like their moms and like daddy too.

Here is dad if You haven't seen him before, he is completely black and white since he was in the breeding pen out of the sun. the yellowing in him here is bleaching from the sun.

So, my EE started laying last Saturday. Like I said, I was a little disappointed that the eggs weren't blue or green. They are a light pale pink and they are really small....BUT, she has laid an egg every day since! 7 eggs in 7 days! wow! So, i have 4 more chickens who are 23 + weeks old who are still not laying. So today I have to go to the store and when I come back my husband tells me to go check the nesting boxes because he heard the egg song. So I run out there all excited because my 3 hens that are laying had already laid an egg and I was thinking that one of the others had had a first egg. So, I look in the nest and there is this HUGH hugh egg in there half buried under the shavings. So I'm thinking...OMG, this is hugh, it must be a triple yoker! And then I pick it up......and hear laughter as I discover the hugh egg was a large smooth oval shaped potatoe! Yes, DH was standing in the door laughing his head off! How mean can you get!!!! LOL! So check my signature to see where he rates today!

Mother to 4 wonderful children, grandmother to 4. 1 DH (39 years), 1 pug, 1 Basenji, 1 dashshund mix (notice I put my DH in that same group! hahaha)

Funny

My EE hasn't laid an egg for two days now. I thought she would lay one yesterday but when she didn't, I thought I mis-calculated the amount of time it would take her to lay and that she would today. Still no egg. I don't want to go digging around in potential poison ivy looking for a hidden nest. I even stared at the nest box to check that there wasn't bugs crawling around in it. I hope there isn't a problem with her.

Maybe if we get the fence up this weekend, she won't be able to go into the neighbor's woody area and I will know that the eggs are "find-able".

Have a question. In all the images I have seen posted of EEs, I have never seen a solid black one. Do solid black EEs exsist or are they simply Black Ameraucanas that did not meet the standard?

I have LOTS of black EE chicks.... not Ameraucana Culls.... just black. I had a blue hen and her with my Lav roo produced about 50/50 blue and black EE. Patterns seem to be the NORM with EE but there are plenty of solid EE too.

black male and female ameraucana . pics off http://ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html. But to answer your question YES THERE ARE ALL BLACK AMERAUCANA. And Yes a solid black EE would be one that doesn't meet the standard in some sort or fashion. Otherwise your calling a perfectly good ameraucana an EE.
