The EE braggers thread!!!

black male and female ameraucana . pics off http://ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html. But to answer your question YES THERE ARE ALL BLACK AMERAUCANA. And Yes a solid black EE would be one that doesn't meet the standard in some sort or fashion. Otherwise your calling a perfectly good ameraucana an EE.
Which would be almost as bad as calling a "perfectly good EE" an ameraucana.

RIGHT!!!!! by the way Im not one of the people who fight for either side. i will have both shortly and i think its so so so so so funny who ever just sits on one side and becomes persnickety towards the other. The question wasn't answered fully in my mind so i maid a point to answer fully.

So dm rippy why does ameraucana.org list black as one of the accepted 8 colors then. The pictures posted of black ameraucana are ones entered into shows as such and judged as such towards the standard. There is such a thing as Black Ameraucana. Maybe some people have mixed blood in there black birds and morally just have to call them EE> But if someone got there blacks from a reputable breeder of ameraucana and he says they are black ameraucana then that is what they are and they do exist. So You wouldn't use them even if they were perfect to standard. that makes no sense what so ever. why if they were perfect would you not call them an ameraucana or breed them as so. Like i said, maybe you don't because you know you have other mixed blood in there. ameraucana is in fact the original and EE comes after by default. I wouldn't use a default name to apply to a perfect bird to a specific standard especially if that bird fits perfect towards every single standard listed i would just call it that breed (Ameraucana). I will be buying black ameraucana this year. i will be breeding them because black is an accepted ameraucana color and i will be calling them black ameraucana and show them as so. If i have some that are not up to standard i wont mind if all you persnickety people call them EE becaues i will do the same and place them in with my EE in my Mixed flock of egg layers.

Not sure what i think i said..... I have black ams and black EE I WOULD NEVER PUT A BLACK EE IN MY BLACK AMS PEN. They are NOT ams they are EE and I dont know their history and would not try to pass them off as ams.

They're really are just EE that are black and not Ameraucanas that don't meet the standard. I hatch lots of black EE and would never put them in my Ameraucana pen, even if they were perfect AMS. They are still just EE.

Is this because they might not breed true? Is that part of the standard?

I don't breed or show, but am curious. If you used a black EE for breeding Ams, and some of the offspring meet the standard, could you just keep those? Or is it a case of unwanted traits popping up in future generations?

I have a wheaten X buff Ameraucana that the breeder identified as an EE.

She looks mostly buff, but has a bit of partridge coloring. She is going through a bit of a molt, and the partridge seems to be disappearing. If she ends up looking buff Am when mature, I still have to call her EE I guess, even though both parents were pure Am.

That is a big part of it. If i sold an EE as an Am and they got a patterned chick i would be busted. The biggest reason is I dont breed my Ee to a standarx.... they are not single breed they are mutts! I have a PERFECT black am pullet in my EE pen..... she lays green eggs and i don't want green eggs in my Ams pen or my lav. I have 2 lav pullets and a roo and 1 pullet just started to lay.... and it Is green.....selling as an EE. I dont want green eggs in my ams.... i have bigger things to work on than introducing green eggs.

Now there are times when they are used but it is a hard hill to climb. It is morally not right for me to use or sell an EE as an ameraucana.

I totally agree .

So, my EE started laying last Saturday. Like I said, I was a little disappointed that the eggs weren't blue or green. They are a light pale pink and they are really small....BUT, she has laid an egg every day since! 7 eggs in 7 days! wow! So, i have 4 more chickens who are 23 + weeks old who are still not laying. So today I have to go to the store and when I come back my husband tells me to go check the nesting boxes because he heard the egg song. So I run out there all excited because my 3 hens that are laying had already laid an egg and I was thinking that one of the others had had a first egg. So, I look in the nest and there is this HUGH hugh egg in there half buried under the shavings. So I'm thinking...OMG, this is hugh, it must be a triple yoker! And then I pick it up......and hear laughter as I discover the hugh egg was a large smooth oval shaped potatoe! Yes, DH was standing in the door laughing his head off! How mean can you get!!!! LOL! So check my signature to see where he rates today!

That's what I was thinking. Makes sense if that's your goal. (My goal is eggs and enjoyment, so mutts are great for me.)

How many generations of breeding pure does it take to call a strain a new variety? For instance, if someone was trying to create a new standard breed of Olive Eggers and potentially get it accapted by the APA and in the SOP? (Not talking about the time for red tape and/or politics of governing groups, just when you'd be satisfied with your birds.)

Seems to me a week or so of nothing but potatoes to eat would cure him of his *evil* ways!

(Of course if he cooks, we'll have to come up with another plan!)
