The egg squat!!! Yea!!!!!

Just for the record - they don't all squat for people. mine never squatter for me at all when I had a rooster. now that I have no rooster, only one of three squats.

My oldest girls (28 week old EEs) have never done the squat. But my most of my seven 23 weekers have been squatting for about a month and laying for almost 2 weeks. Just two days ago 2 of my 20 weekers started with the squat when I come in the run or coop...yeah! I'm looking forward to more eggs:lol:

If I just pet them, they'll get up and walk away as if nothing happened. But if I grab them lightly around the neck area and give a slight shake before I stop petting, they'll ruffle all their feathers and shake themselves..."ahh that felt good!" Silly birds!

I'm still so happy to see the squat that I've been petting the pullet just to keep seeing it! Poor thing!

I noticed that this same pullet has been making a little nest for herself in a corner of the coop... she has a nest box, but she seems to like the corner

I am so enjoying raising these chickens and being a part of the byc community!

I'll keep everyone posted about any eggs!!!

4 of my 5 that are currently laying do the squat, and they all did for about 2 weeks before they started laying. I have a few more that have just started squatting.

I don't have a roo, so I think they view me as the rooster. It's unmistakable when it happens even if you haven't seen it before- sort of like the "egg song." Once you hear it, you know you're hearing it.
