the [egg] wait is driving me crazy!!!

My girls think Im nuts...I keep doing the squat test, and nothing! Maybe a poll is a good idea. Mine are also at 21 weeks today, nice red combs on three out of five, nada for the squat test....they just keep kicking the straw out of the nest box!

it seems like more people have eggs from 24-28 weeks...

As exciting as the first egg is...it may be anticlimactic. My dominique "Sally the First" laid my first ever homegrown egg about a month ago. She was 5 months old. The egg is my avatar and was perfect in every way, and tasty. She has done nothing since. My other Dominique, "Sally the Second" sang the egg song for me yesterday..... and nothing. They tease!

I noticed that your Dominiquers have very red crowns and wattles, mine don't and they are suppose to be laying eggs when I got them. But since i have gotten them no eggs for one and the crowns and wattles have almost turned a very bright red like that. I guess the guy gave me his juvenile chickens.

I have 2 BO's and hear they may be "late bloomers". Not sure how old they are, we have had them for 8 weeks so I'm guessing maybe 20 weeks? No eggs yet

What is the "singing" everyone talks about? Does this happen while they are in the process of laying or just in general? Mine free range all day and go in the coop at night.

the "egg song" for your viewing (and hearing!) pleasure!

consider yourself furtunate! Lots of unscrupulous people out there will sell you their two year old "laying hens" as juvies or year olds...egg production drops off after two years (generally), and a lot of first timers get taken by this rouse....

My girls are only 15 wkees and I can't stand the wait. Yesterday while cleaning the coop I set the girls up with the brooder box all ready for them. Guess I better chill out for a bit.

I actually heard one of my hens singing that song this morning while she was out in the yard. I just checked their combs, they are not bright red. They are however, sleeping in the nesting boxes.
