the [egg] wait is driving me crazy!!!

Nineteen hens - 2 Two year olds, the rest a mix...27/26 weeks and one 20 weeks. NOT one of them laying.

The only one close for me is my OEG bantam, she'll be 25 weeks tomorrow and no eggs! She's been squatting for almost a month now. Grr!

Okay, I think I am resigning myself to waiting until spring for my first eggs

It is now dark by 6:30, which means not nearly enough light to stimulate egg laying. The girl's combs are continuing to redden...even my easter egger's comb started pinking today. *sigh*

i got my first egg from a broody yesterday after waiting for nearly 20 weeks for her to start again now all i need is the others to join in and i may get a box of eggs yet !!!!

ha ha well, I for one wish you luck! My new girls are start-overs from loosing my entire flock last year. It's so frustrating!

well the luck definatly worked

after nealy 20 weeks of waiting my old girl after broody and raising chicks have started again on sunday i got my first egg off mummy chicken and this morning i got an egg of one of the new girls who i had given up hope of laying until the spring !!

i am so happy i dont know what todo

lets hope this is not all a one off

i hope all goes well and i pass on the luck to the nest person waiting xx

Went to let the girls out this morning and notice their combs have gotten redder! Maybe I'll have an egg by Christmas!

Today my 5 girls are 20 weeks old--so the waiting game is on.... out of the 5 -2 of the girls, have nice red combs and nice size wattles. I know I will be checking the nest boxes very often!! This is like being a kid and waiting for Christmas to come.

I'll chime in here. I've collected a variety of silkies, ranging in age from about 3-9 months. Silkies are notoriously late layers and none of mine had started. Then I cheated and bought a trio of silkies that included a laying hen. She stopped laying 2 days after I got her home and I figured that was it until spring because it's barely light from about 6:30am - 5pm.. Well, she started laying again and I caught 2 others now laying too. They have "nesting parties" in the coop, and I found warm eggs where each of them were. I only have dim solar light in my coop to provide a little light for them to find their way in at night. Somehow I'm getting lots of eggs now! I think the one laying hen triggered the others.
