Thanks everyone for your good wishes. I can't wait to go out tomorrow morning and look again!

kari_dawn, my SLW, Fancy is about the same size as Jasmine, and just as red in the face. She's 6 months old and just started doing the shuffle-squat yesterday. She's also gotten even more talkative and has been yelling at us whenever we go outside. I hope she'll start laying, AND that she won't upset the neighbors!

I am just waiting....waiting....waiting....... still waiting.....LOL!!!! I know the eggs will come soon, but not soon enough.....yesterday I changed the pine shavings in the nest boxes, thinking that maybe, just maybe they wanted a fresh nest----nope, but I don't think any of them even noticed. LOL!!!

I feel yah. My girls are 25 weeks today and I'm waiting with baited breath. I've noticed that they're getting a bit rounder, their combs are pinker and they're a tad louder, but... i could just be making it all up in anticipation. I'm going out of town next week and I'm praying that the chicken sitter doesn't get the first egg. I want them to wait until 27 weeks!! We'll see.

I know what you mean. We're heading out for Christmas and I am hoping I get EE eggs but I don't want my chick sitter to see them first! Lol! My EE chicks are checking out the nest boxes and look ready but nothing. They are just 19 weeks so I probably have awhile to wait.

my EEs in particular always seem to be late layers. I am also out of town this week visiting my parents. Maybe there will be eggs waiting for me when I get back!

I hope that your chickens do decide to wait to lay their 1st egg--I'm sure your sitter won't be as excited as you would be.

mine will be 25 weeks Wednesday, they were hatched on June 29th. Combs and wattles are larger and redder and also like yours they are getting louder.

...So I just got back from Maryland, halfway hoping I would see an egg...but no luck. STILL nothing. Not even a squat...I didn't think it was possible, but her comb and wattles are even MORE red than when I left...at least she is starting to let me touch her back without totally freaking...or is that just my wishful imagination?

My little red Bantam - don't know what breed she is, was supposed to have been an Ameraucana - sang for almost 45 minutes solid this morning and I thought for sure I was going to get my first egg. I guess she was just teasing me, but she has never done that before. And it was a different tune from her normal "talking". Then this afternoon when I was letting them free range, one of my Australorps squatted and puffed her wings out a couple of times. I, too will be away for Christmas. Not going far and will be back on Monday. Maybe they will hold them until then:ya Mine are just about 24 weeks and the bantam is closer to 29 weeks. I'm sooooo ready for an egg.

I asked my chicken sitter to take the eggs she gathers. I'll just pretend like they are their first. Lol. We get back home Monday and I'm pretty sure I'll still be waiting. Merry Christmas!
