The egg we got yesterday!

Yesterday evening, I opened up the nest boxes to find...

Just for perspective, here is a normal egg laid by that same hen...

Just to be straight: this hen is not a bantam, and this is not her first egg. In fact, it is smaller than the first egg that we ever got. Ever. Never seen anything like this before...our chickens are in the habit of turning out nice, normal-sized eggs. She lays almost every day, and never abnormally. So, what happened here??

Any thoughts?

That is an egg fart also known as a wind egg. It's just a fluke. A kink in the plumbing. She should be fine and back to laying full-sized eggs tomorrow.
