I decided to run a fecal to the vet first thing this morning & they do still have coccidia eggs, so we are starting over day 1 with 1.5 tsp corid 20% powder. Thank you all! Little chicky has been doing really well today so hopefully the Karo perked her up.

Fecal test put my mind at ease oddly enough! I knew another dose was probably what I needed to do, but before I did it, I needed to be sure that's what I was dealing with. Didn't want to go too far down the wrong road. ;-) And little chicky I was worried about was pretty perky all day, with a Much better appetite.

Her and the little injured one that I babied the last 3 weeks must know who loves them. They have become so attached. She has gotten into the habit of jumping and sitting on my shoulder every time she comes out.

UPDATE: Vet diagnosed a fungal lung infection. Medicine to be made at compounding pharmacy so hopefully will get it tomorrow. They did give me 3 doses to get her started. She is still struggling with each breath she takes and her comb is looking very shriveled and purpleish. She definitely has me very concerned. I just got home from work and was amazed to find she layed an egg! And not a soft shelled egg. It is quite oblong but very hard shelled. She is a fighter. Not gonna give up on my girl.

My Opal is still struggling. She has not been eating or drinking the past two days. I have been giving her water using a dropper. But I can't get her to eat anything. Due to the way she is breathing, I don't think tubing is an option. I was wondering if perhaps some homemade chicken broth would be OK to give? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

My Opal is still struggling. She has not been eating or drinking the past two days. I have been giving her water using a dropper. But I can't get her to eat anything. Due to the way she is breathing, I don't think tubing is an option. I was wondering if perhaps some homemade chicken broth would be OK to give? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

chicken broth is fine. you can put some boiled egg - yolk in it and syringe it (without needle of course). good luck.

I am beginning to wonder if the vet diagnosis of fungal infection was correct. That was Saturday. Seems like the medicine showed have had some effect by now. But she is the same if not worse. Now she is not even eating or drinking. I feel horrible watching her like this. I wonder if he checked her for some kind of blockage? It was quite expensive for the visit and then the medication was another $50 and my girl is still suffering days later. I just don't know what to do.

chickens need 30-45 days to heal. their respiratory system is too complicated and this does not help.

Can you take her back to the vet and have the give her some subcutaneous fluids?
