The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Hi I'm new and this is maybe an emergency? One of my chickens, a Wyandotte she's about 3 months old has a very stuffy nose. She started sneeze honking 3 days ago. Now she is quiet, no clucking, clear snot occasionally bubbles from her nose & she sometimes mouth breathes. She's a bit less active than usual, but she still gets out tof scratch & peck & eat and drink. One other younger chick also has some stuffy nose symptoms but is much more typical in behavior in every other way. Can I please get advice on prognosis treatment & containment? Thank you!

she needs antibiotics. I prefer baytril as it helps with more infections. I give them 2 drops per 1kg of body weight (diluted in little water and syringed) for 3-6 days.

from time to time I have sick chickens and cannot figure out what their problem is.

the only symptoms they have are: they cannot walk - off balance and drink a lot of water. they usually eat.

there is no avian vet where I live. with my first chicken with those symptoms I went to the vet and he said salmonella just by watching her. he gave me baytril. she got well but had always been skinny and died after a year. I now don't give the antibiotics, just honey water with some hot pepper and garlic. I also give them boiled yolk. one chicken got better, another one looks better than yesterday. they have been wormed.

any idea what it might be? they are different age, from non laying pullets to laying hens. 2 of hens got better after laying an egg. the last one laid an egg and than couldn't get up. she kept drinking water even at night without the light.

well, the last hen with the above symptoms had worms. I did warm them 3 times this year but is seems that with this crisis in greece they sell us flour and not medicines. I gave her human vermox and it worked this time.

not an emergency - my cockerel died. I would like to hear your opinions.

he was fine yesterday morning but in the evening within 20 minutes his both eyes got swollen. he looked as if he was boiling inside and the water with bubbles was coming from his eyes. puss was forming fast. his tongue was white and he had plenty of mucus bubbling from his mouth too. I think he choked.

the veterinarian said mycoplasma but I think it must have been something viral as it happened fast.

I'm sorry for your loss.
Can your vet send him for necropsy? Hopefully that would give you better answers.
