~~~The European Freedom Fighters!~~~ A Shifted-Reality Second World-War Role-Play Thread!
Kenny replied to Therese, "Ah yes. I'll try out some of those moves. Should make me look very, hmm, what‘s the word, credible." He paused for a second. “I was merely enquiring as to the situation in the great motherland (said with some degree of irony)and asking if the factories around Gartenplatz were open again. Trying to make it sound casual.”
(Kenny grew up in Germany. His command of the language is not exceptional, but it's fine. Now whether the same can be said for me is another question... I suspect an entire school life of learning the language would amount to something at least.)
Kenny put on the uniform. He thought it looked all right on himself, which might or might not have been a good thing.
Anton grinned. “The crutches will be great. It'll mean you guys won't have to worry about me so much at least." He liked the sound of the independence.
v (lol, I know, it was just a joke. I can edit it to something else.)
"Did you get that translaton off Google Translate?” he said jokingly. “I was merely enquiring as to the situation in the great motherland (said with some degree of irony)and asking if the factories around Gartenplatz were open again.”
(I was trying to make it sound natural, hence all the pauses. Haven't used Google Translate in a long time,he and I always did tend to differ in opinion when it comes to sentence structure, which is supposed to be fexible, but tell that to Google Translate. :p I suppose it doesn't help any that um is also a preposition...)
(Umm... there's no possible way he could've referenced Google Translate just now, right? Its 1947, computers themselves haven't been invented yet, let alone the internet. Just saying, lol)
"Alright, looks like we should be ready to go, people. Let's load up!" Dirk hollered to the group as he walked out into the main area of the barn where the vehicles were. Anton was given a pair of crude but effective crutches and helped to a WC51 3/4-ton Dodge utility truck that had been parked behind the group. The truck was loaded with mortars, optics and rangefinders, and plenty of ordinance as Anton was given a boost up into the passenger seat of the high-sitting cab. Dirk walked up to Kenny and quickly said "You're with me in the cab of the lead truck, come on." As the German-painted WC51 pulled out of the back of the barn, a similarly coloured Dodge WC64 3-ton truck waited alongside a pair of German Opel Blitz trucks. All of them were loaded with weapons, ammunition, supplies, and equipment, and were currently being boarded by the rebels themselves as well. Next to the trucks sat the huge Jagdtiger II Heavy Tank Destroyer, its massive 850hp, V-16 Maybach engine rumbling like distant thunder. The enourmous war machine stood over twelve feet wide, nearly ten feet tall, and from the tail lights to the muzzle of the 128mm cannon measured close to forty feet. With no less than nine inches of armor in any given spot and up to thirteen inches in some places, she was a ninty-ton monster; and Connie Hodges, grinning like a school girl, was sitting in control. The vehicle required a crew of five to operate, a driver, commander, main gunner, machinegunner, and loader, and Connie was happily volunteering as the tank commander. "Engine readings steady, sir, looks like she's good to go!" the driver said to Connie as the barn doors were opened. "Good, all that's left for now is to wait for the trucks to pull out and fall in behind them," Connie replied.
(Is there a gun turret? If so:)
"Dibs on the turret!" said Therese as she scrambled in.
(If not, never mind.)
(There technically isn't really a turret, as most people think of tank turrets; the main gun was so massive it had to be anchored into the frame of the tank itself, and can only swivel about 15 degrees to either side and can angle 40 degrees up and 10 degrees down. The entire vehicle would need to turn in order to fire at anything outside that cone, so yeah, there isn't technically a main turret. There is still a main gun (the one I was just explaining) and two MG42 heavy machineguns, one on a swivel mount next to the roof hatch (this can fire in any direction) and one in a ball turret on the front (that can fire in about a 50 degree cone in front of the vehicle) Any of those you want to take advantage of, go right ahead!)
Connie saw Therese approaching the vehicle and reached her hand down to help her new-found friend climb up.
(I'm gonna use my allpowerful thread-owner powers to put Kenny and Anton into their respective vehicles for now, just for the sake of sanity. I won't let anything major happen without Fierlin, though, I'm just doing it so the group is able to leave.)
"Alright, I guess I'll have to take your word for it," Connie said as the trucks pulled out of the barn in front of her vehicle. "Jerry, bring her out and form up behind the Opel Blitzes, if you would," she called to the driver. He nodded and gripped the twin throttle levers with each hand. As he gently pushed them foreward, the German behemoth lurched forewards out of the barn and into the night. Falling in behind the larger Dodge and the two German trucks, the Jagdtiger was quickly followed by the truck carrying the mortar teams. As the rebel convoy drove out of the woods, they made their way to the nearest road and headed towards Metz, about a 45-minute drive North from wjere they were. The inside of the Jagdtiger was surrprisingly quiet for a vehicle it's size, due to the efficiency of the V-16 Maybach engine and the sheer amount of armor plating separating the crew compartment from the engine. Even at 30mph, the steady noise level was only about as much as an idling large truck from about 15 feet away. "Well, we've got some time to kill," the front machinegunner said after a moment. "Miss Hodges, would you mind telling us a bit about your brother's exploits as the best Allied fighter pilot not-known-to-be-alive? The media distributed by those d***** Nazis is always so heavily clouded and biased, it would be much better to hear something from a direct source."
Connie thought briefly, saying "I don't know, is that what you guys are interested in?"
