The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Omigosh, I have to tell you guys a story. My SIL called just a bit ago. She took her dog, Abby, to the office with her today. Abby is a solid black pitt mix. She apparently was chilly so Janet put one of the crocheted cowls she had bought from me awhile back on Abby's neck.

Abby seemed fine to be wearing her "bling" so she was sitting up in the front seat of the SUV with her cowl on and a lady in a car next to her rolled down her window and shouted," I just love that scarf your dog is wearing!" I guess Blue Roo Creations has really gone to the dogs!

My son is stuck in Tokyo. It's Chinese New Year or some such festival, all flights are full, and he's on standby. But, I guess they put him in a hotel, TWO HOURS from the airport. He's bleary eyed with exhaustion and he may lose his new job, which includes the apt, if he doesn't make it to Seoul by Monday. Nothing I can do to help and nothing he can do to make it happen. He took out flight insurance so he may be able to make a claim, but the Koreans are "no excuse" kind of folks so he may just get fired though it was not his fault, other than taking a week to go to the states to see his 94 yr old grandfather for the first time in two years.

My cousin is married to a Korean gentleman and from everything I have observed from him there is tremendous respect for the family/elderly in the Korean culture. So maybe the fact that he took time out to visit your Daddy will bode well in his favor. Bless his heart, and yours too as I know you are very concerned about him. Hopefully, he will be able to reach Seoul and get some rest before Monday morning.

Dog Scarves! You may have invented a new trend. After all someone is making money selling chicken sweaters. LOL!

Hope he makes it to Seoul in time, that's all I can do. If he doesn't, I hope they don't fire him over it before he even starts. Just in limbo until we hear something concrete, I guess.

And, with that, PICTURES! Rachel and the babies have been locked up tight for days. The chicks will be five weeks old Monday. Today, it's 33*, a heat wave! The snow didn't materialize so everyone got out. The three cockerels were out pronto while the two pullets hung back, obviously feeling the cold more than their brothers. I think these boys are going to be gorgeous. The pullets, time will tell-they just take longer to show their colors.

Cold little girl below, all hunched up. She still isn't feathered out. Feathers might help. At almost 5 weeks, well, she's fairly naked.

This boy has legs Barishnikov (sp?) would envy.

Love the supervisor in the back. Is that Xander? Gorgeous birds!

You should do a Mountain View Roos calendar for the Blue Roo shop. You've had some really handsome boys down there. On another note, sadly, we lost 2 chicken neighbors to a hawk yesterday. One was a cute little silkie/leghorn mix and the other a white crested black polish, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but a fun bird to have in the yard. Predators are getting desparate in this weather.

That's a great idea on the calendar! I'll propose that to Ladyhawk! Thanks!

Too bad about the birds lost to the hawk. The Polish can't see danger coming. They probably hear warnings then look up from under their poof going, "where? where?" and then, they're hit.

Oh my goodness they are beautiful! Such clean lines! I have been doing a little looking around at barred rocks and I have to say… I am having a hard time finding any as beautiful as yours!

I'm glad to hear it warmed up for you a bit today. We thought we might need to supplement our wood stove with the heat pump. It was into the negatives last night. My boys have not had school all week from the foot of snow we got Monday/Tuesday and we are looking at another wintery mix mess tomorrow. The wood pile is disappearing quickly! Stay warm down there!

I was also thinking that family is very important to the Koreans, so maybe he will be forgiven, especially as he started back 4 days before he was due in.

Hmm, dog scarves - a new market!

Sorry to hear about the losses, I have had a Barred Owl at my house lately, love to see her! But in a way it is good that it is too cold to even let them into the completely enclosed run.

Thank you! I am pleased with them so far. And under two broodies, between them, I have five more going to hatch about March 11-12.

I hope they understand. It was completely beyond his control. He is supposed to move into his new apt over the weekend and start Monday, same type job, teaching English, but different school, back in the general area he started in when he got to Korea.

Dog bling. Not a market I was planning to enter, but hey, Ladyhawk's huge goober of a dog, Casca, loves his bling.
