The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

You definitely need to take care of yourself first. There are times in our lives where we need to keep running and stay busy, and times when it's best to slow down, and enjoy the peace and quiet.

You have had quite a few nice birds over the years. You definitely deserve a good rest. You take good care of your birds, so they all live long lives.

Heaves is a terrible thing that doesn't go away I believe. I'm always glad we make our own hay. Quality of purchased hay is always questionable. We get some moldy bales some years too despite trying not to. It's hard to make hay in Wisconsin because it gets so humid and it keeps hay from curing properly. The constant threat of rain also give us small windows to get it done.

I stopped eating meat when I was 18. Nothing like coming home from school to find your animal friends hanging on the butcher truck. :hmm

My husband eats meat, but he hunts so at least the deer lived a decent life before. I don't like that many farm animals are now grown in confinement, so we try not to buy too much of that. :(
If we dont support farmers that raise animals in humane conditions they will cease to exist. I support my local raw milk producer. My body demands meat. I wish my husband had time to hunt.

My son is doing really well, it seems. He posted that he is 76 lbs from his goal weight now:
Well, I weighed In this morning..had to step on the scale twice b/c I thought it was broken for a minute.... 296.8!!!! Holy @#%!!! I’m finally under 300! Only 10lbs left before I’m officially 100lbs down!

Here in Wisconsin most small farmers went out of business. The larger farms keep their cows on dry lot these days. I support my local farmers by buying dairy at the stores, and buying cheese from the local cheese factory. My husband and I used to be dairy farmers. It was a hard life with no profit. People want cheap food. Cheap and humane doesn't always mix.

Maybe some of you can chime in on this thread for me. Someone knows better than me, apparently (eyeroll). https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...n-saddles-aprons-video.1306207/#post-21302782
I've dealt with that guy before. He's a know it all jerk who's extremely disrespectful, especially to women. Nothing I say holds any meaning to him. Thankfully nothing he says means anything to me either. My comments would only feed his desire to dominate and bully. It's unfortunate that there are quite a few popular members who are downright rude, and everyone just gives them more applause. :hmm BYC has been going downhill recently.

Snarky, rude and plain WRONG.

Dang, Hector tore open Jill's side a few months back and he barely had any spurs or toenails. How would "proper management" make that not happen when Hector barrels down the barn aisle and jumps her so hard he sometimes goes over her head? No matter how many girls he has, he does the same thing to Jill every time he is let out. He had Jane and Maddie and still did that. Jill is his favorite hen.

Yeah I may get in trouble commenting, but oh well. No need for him to be so rude.:rant

Actually, he said he'd take my suggestion and pass. Look at my answer. I said, Oh good, now we can continue the thread in peace. LOL. I don't like SNARK.

oh crap he's back. He's one of those last word jerks.
