The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Am I crazy? I'm thinking of giving Brandy four or five eggs. She is broody again and I am afraid she'll kill herself if she doesn't get a satisfactory ending to this. I can sell them when she is sick of them, I'm fairly sure. Being Brahmas, they are equipped for cool weather pretty early on with their feathered legs and size. I don't really want chicks, but I adore Brandy and she didn't like that she was denied the last time. She went a full four or five weeks. I can make sure she gets special food on the nest daily if I allow this. I really do not relish having chicks, though part of me misses that. Cannot keep any.

All I have is the hospital cage and she'll just sit like she's on a nest with eggs. I've tried with her. Brandy has raised six clutches already and this last time was the only time she didn't get what she wanted. So, now, she's trying again. I have one empty pen so I just grabbed five eggs, made her a nest on the floor, put them there and put her in the pen. When I went back, she was sitting on them with the most satisfied expression on her face. She didn't even scream at me. So, if they're fertilized, I guess she'll be a mama again.
MaryJo is semi-broody, but no way I'm allowing a newbie to do this right now.

I added two more eggs midday to make sure something will hatch for her, so she has seven. She is a sweet broody and is reaching over to drink water I put close to her. She is quite pleased right now that her human slave finally gave her what she wanted. I love Brandy, sweetest hen ever.

ROFLOL. We ALL knew you were going to put eggs under her. That was a given. We were just waiting to see how long before you'd cave in. It won't be long, and you'll be posting cute little chick pics.

BUT, do you realize how many broodies I denied eggs before I finally let Brandy sway me?? I went through Maretta, Brandy, Bonnie, Cora, MaryJo, Jill (though I did let her have them and she screwed up), Thea and now, back to Brandy again! I think I held out pretty well!

You're not crazy and maybe you should let her brood. Watcha gonna do?

I worked all day on getting this tarp on top of the pen I'm building. I just can't believe how long it takes me to do stuff.
I sprayed the PI but it didn't do anything. So maybe I'll cut down what has come thru the fence.

I also have a silkie roo with fly strike. I hope it's not bad yet but who knows. Poor thing. He usually runs like heck away from me and today he's hiding in the nest like a hen.

The fly strike guy, put him in a tub of water. The larvae will leave or they'll drown, just let him soak in a warm bath for a bit to get the ones close to the surface off then pick others out that you still see. Poor guy, did he have a wound?

I hate poison ivy. Takes a vegetation killer to get rid of it sometimes. People keep saying spray with a salt and vinegar solution but that never worked for me.
