The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Glad to hear Tom is much improved.
He's a *little* improved. Still in pain, but minus the burning down one leg that added to his suffering, at least! No matter what we're dealing with, we always say it could be much worse.
A friend of mine, a cancer survivor, sat waiting while her daughter had a double mastectomy yesterday and before her daughter was out of anesthesia, the daughter's husband found that he has thyroid cancer. Yeah, could be worse.

Oh my goodness. That's a lot of bad news, too close together. I can hope that they caught it in time to be able to get it into remission, so they have some good years ahead.

Finally figured out the sex of all four of Brandy's chicks, and as I suspected, two pullets and two cockerels. One boy is Baby Huey, wow. One girl was slower to feather and I thought, dang it, I have three girls and one boy, but I finally got my hands on her today and her shoulder and chest feathers are very patterned so definite girl.

I may be losing my beautiful Alice, the 2nd of the Blue Bookend hens. Remember, Neela passed just recently and I said that Alice wouldn't be here much longer without her best friend and sister. Found her laying sort of listing to the side and open mouth breathing and it's not even hot. Picked her up and she sort of gasped twice and then began to breathe more regularly. She's walking like she's weaker on one side, too, and open mouth breathing. I hate to lose my last blue hen. Alice is so sweet and beautiful and feminine, but she is going on 10 years old. It may just be her time. Dang it.
