The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

speckled, Are you ok? You've been kind of quiet lately, and I haven't seen any links posted on here, to your youtube channel. I know you were having a dickens of a time trying to walk. How is Tom doing? Is he getting any better?

We're getting that lift constructed, trying to can garden produce. And every morning we have the treat of hearing Emily, the Black Rock, crow. Since Panda died, she crows with the roosters every morning...and she has an excellent crow, LOL!
Sorry I've been missing. Been in survival mode, rain every day. Guy is coming today to auger two holes for the 12' 4x4 posts that the wheels of the lift will run on in a steel channel called U-strut. He is someone Tom knows from FB, but he moved close to us and has a construction company and volunteered to do it for free and even said he'd help him do the rest of the lift. We already have most of it built, just need those posts put in and the winch motor put up...that sucker is heavy!

I even need it a bit myself. My knee is still giving me fits. I have it wrapped a lot, but I've been doing my own therapy on it, heat, flexing it before I even get out of bed, etc. Joints take awhile to heal at my age, I guess. I don't even know how I originally injured it.

Joints can take awhile to heal, at any age. When I was about 19, my brother was chasing me for something I did (all in fun). I ran out of the house, and started down the steps, when he caught me. I lost my balance, and landed squarely on my knee. I didn't dislocate the knee cap, but damaged everything else that was possible. My doctor said he could put it in a cast, but preferred not to. I had to stay on the couch for 3 weeks, with a pillow under my knee, to keep it in the correct position. For the first 2 weeks, I got an hour of moist heat, followed by an hour of the ice pack, then wrapped in an ACE bandage for an hour, then 2 hours without the Ace bandage. After the 2 weeks, it was an hour of ice pack, followed by a couple hours of Ace bandage, then 4 hours without the bandage. My mother was the one that had to do the moist heat, and get the ice packs for me. In addition, she had to bring me my meals, and beverages. She also had to let me put my arm around her, so I could get to the bathroom, without putting any weight on that leg/knee. At the end of 3 weeks, it had healed perfectly, and I could walk just fine. The best perk was that I did it just before school started, and I didn't have to go to school.

What a royal pain, Cheryl! I remember badly dislocating my pinky finger doing something boneheaded. Popped it back into place myself. The doctor said I had to force-flex it daily, no matter how much it hurt or I'd lose the use of it. He was right, of course. I did what he said and I have no issues with it.
