Joints can take awhile to heal, at any age. When I was about 19, my brother was chasing me for something I did (all in fun). I ran out of the house, and started down the steps, when he caught me. I lost my balance, and landed squarely on my knee. I didn't dislocate the knee cap, but damaged everything else that was possible. My doctor said he could put it in a cast, but preferred not to. I had to stay on the couch for 3 weeks, with a pillow under my knee, to keep it in the correct position. For the first 2 weeks, I got an hour of moist heat, followed by an hour of the ice pack, then wrapped in an ACE bandage for an hour, then 2 hours without the Ace bandage. After the 2 weeks, it was an hour of ice pack, followed by a couple hours of Ace bandage, then 4 hours without the bandage. My mother was the one that had to do the moist heat, and get the ice packs for me. In addition, she had to bring me my meals, and beverages. She also had to let me put my arm around her, so I could get to the bathroom, without putting any weight on that leg/knee. At the end of 3 weeks, it had healed perfectly, and I could walk just fine. The best perk was that I did it just before school started, and I didn't have to go to school.
