Wow!! I totally agree with Drumstick Diva in that I thought you would be posting about Nugget. I was just out in the garden feeding our little man some blueberries through the fence and something told me to come in here and check on Nugget. Sorry to hear about Jet. I hope that when he hit (if he hit the wall), it stunned him so he wasn't fully aware of what was going on. Poor little button.
I will say a prayer for sweet Nugget. Hugs to you and your husband.
And then there were three.....Rocky, Jet and Lizzie remain after the three amigos left with Karen for the other side of Atlanta. Rocky is still bossy but they are getting along better. Ten-and-a-half weeks old.
Rocky is getting a lot of color in his hackles and wings now.
Amanda ready to snap at Jet, who is eating from her bowl.
See the split wing on Jet? Must be related to the dwarf gene since I've never seen it on any of the chicks raised here prior to this, just another part and parcel of that deformity.
And a short video of Rocky.
Isaac and Georgie, the old geezer couple, plus Blue Rock, Neela, behind Ike. Neela has pencil eraser sized spurs now at 5 years old, guess like an old lady mustache, LOL. Ike is going "gray" in his tail more and more with each molt.
And my lovebug, Gypsy. Gosh, I love that hen. She'll be 8 yrs old in November but I hope she lives to 20. She is my favorite of them all here, her and Pocket Penny, one of the Belgian D'Anvers.
Boy, my heart just jumped when I scrolled to this picture of Gypsy! Didn't expect it. I do miss Valerie. I don't know what it is about some chickens, they may look ordinary to people but you just fall in love with them without reason!
I am raising 10 little Bargain silkies that are 8 weeks old now. They are beautiful. Like you, I remember years back when I said I'd never like silkies and I remember you saying that you'd never have anything but big birds-my how time changes! That Bargain, not only did she wrap the eggs well, she actually put specific instructions in the box with the eggs she sent me. She sounded so "protective".
Adios Jet. I too thought we would be hearing bad news about Nugget. Anytime you have visible deformities, they can be related to internal issues as well - so as you said not a surprise, but unwelcome anyway.

Yes, I expected to lose both of them, but they were doing so well. And I sort of thought Rocky would go first. Dwarfism isn't a good thing in poultry, generally. At least it was quick.
@seminolewind , I know you miss Valerie. Gypsy is my favorite here, has been since before she was the love of Zane's life. She was such a sweet friend to him, the only hen who wanted to go into his cage and would be nice to him. They were such a bonded couple, no matter which rooster she was actually with at the time.

Oh, no. Now, Dottie is broody. All that clucking in the coop was too much for her. What the heck do I do now? Sigh. I hate to deny Dottie babies, she's so good at being a mom, but I sure don't need any.
