The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Love the pasture pics. So pretty. Glad to hear that Dottie is doing better as well.

Did Rex have the hock problem as well?

No, I don't recall Rex ever having any problems at all, not until he had that last fight with Deacon then went downhill over the next three weeks. He was a big healthy guy.

Good. Hopefully, Atlas' problem is only temporary.

Maybe he hurt himself when he hurt Dottie. Seems odd that both were hurt at the same time, doesn't it? Dottie is feeling much better, but our 15* night tonight is not going to feel good on Atlas's leg. Hopefully, he'll park himself under the heat lamp I provided for this cold spell.

I may park myself under a heat lamp. It was mid-80s two days ago in Florida, and 5 Here this morning. Very hard to adjust to!

When we flew down before Christmas I'm pretty sure we flew over your neck of the woods. You could tell where the highest mountains were, they had a light dusting of snow.

Yup, I can see the snow on the cabins on Watson Mtn. It will snow up there before it gets down to me about 400 ft lower.

Sad news. My hen LuLu passed away on the nest last night. She was 5½ years old so she had a good long life.

I'm very sorry, Isaiah. If she was on the nest, she was probably cozy and comfortable. It's always hard to lose them. I was looking at my list of all I've lost here, not counting ones who have passed that went to live with other people. The list, with Lucy's passing, is at 50 now. I've had my own chickens for ten years now, though I was around them as a child on my grandfather's farm. The most I've had here at one time was 55, no bantams at the time. I think I'm at 33 or so, with 8 being bantams (7 D'Anvers and Xander, the Cochin).
