The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Aw, I’m sorry she’s doing worse. :( one of mine is named Betsy too and every time I see her I think of your Betsy and hope she’s ok.

The throw turned out beautiful! I definitely need to find time some day to try that pattern.

Thanks on both counts. There was a funny story behind the name "Betsy" that began when my friend Ladyhawk's then teenage daughter was in Florida visiting her father. She saw a fat white hen running down the street with a man in hot pursuit yelling, "Betsy, you come back here, Betsy!". So, when I got both LH and I a couple of Buff Orpingtons and New Hamphire pullet chicks from a feed store shipment prior to her visiting me one year, we each named our Orp "Betsy". But, mine was such a bad example of the breed, I ended up selling her as a layer to someone so I was out one Betsy. Since all the first Brahmas were named with a "B", seemed logical to name one Betsy.

Sorry about Betsy. I was hoping the concoction would do the trick, and she would be fine. Maybe it will still work, and she'll pull through. It says to give them the concoction 3 times a day, so maybe it will continue helping her. I too find that on those rare occasions when one of mine starts going south, they don't come back from it. Usually it's because of old age, or something more serious that can't be prevented, or treated.

Been gone several days (or was it a couple weeks...) so just getting caught up.
Wondered where you were, missed you!

Oh, MaryJo will turn 29 weeks old Saturday. No egg yet. I need those eggs. Only Cora, Tiny and Thea are currently laying of all my birds.

I have two 33-34 week girls who haven’t laid yet, and two who were laying that stopped when the days got shorter. I’m thinking I may not get anything from those 4 until spring. I get about 4 eggs a days between the other 6.

Check out these two I just brought in. I was wrong. I do have a 4th layer, my oldest hen, Amanda. Amanda the Wonder Hen! She will be 11 in March. This is her 2nd egg in three days. I thought the other one looked like hers and not Tiny's, but it was in a nest and it's hard for her to get into any nest, even at floor level, but she did! This one was on the floor beside her, true to her usual eggs. Tiny's are distinctive (and ugly)
