The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I had excitedly joined a few Australian shepherd groups on Facebook only to find the nastiness too much. I left most of the group's and I don't post anything. I never knew what people are really like, it is sad. The internet gives people a sense of anonymity. I hope most wouldn't act that way in person, but I'm afraid many will these days. It's becoming a scary wood now that everyone is "connected". Thankfully BYC is mostly a safe place and they don't tolerate such bad behaviors.

I never did Facebook before I created a page for my farm, and now I'm careful to stay only in certain groups. My local bird fanciers group is great, lots of nice people, no fighting, no drama. I'm also in a couple groups for some of the breeds I raise, like Calls and ko shamos, but I absolutely refuse to and will not join any groups for ayam cemanis. I don't know why but most of the people who breed them and are on Facebook are nasty. Backbiting, dissing other's birds, accusations of birds not being pure, etc. And for some reason now the 'hot' thing is to totally discredit some lines of birds that were imported into the country and say they're all junk and only a certain NEW line (which is illegally imported, I happen to know) is the only good line.

So, no thank you.

It is strange how certain breeds attract aggressive people. In dogs it seems Australian shepherd people are nuts, boxer, Boston, and lab people are nice. I haven't even ventured into chickens on Facebook. I'm just there to look and read and now keep my knowledge to myself.

Cancer is certainly possible. And so is egg peritonitis, even if there is currently no bloat - her history is very suggestive. Sad no matter why, but feeding non-laying hens uses up a lot of resources, both financial and effort-wise.

Thanks, Mary. Yes, I realize that she could have EYP or be laying internally, either/both, without bloat. I've had hens with both those ailments who never bloated up at all. They just start doing downhill and losing weight and then get weak and pass away if we don't euthanize them. Poor Ro. She spent the night in the hospital cage right under a reptile bulb, but when it was sunny, Tom let her go outside with Hector and Thea attacked her immediately. I said to put her back up there, that she should not have to fight that way. Either it was because she was gone overnight, not likely with that short absence, or Thea knows something is wrong with her.

Yes it is expensive. I don’t think I will feed. It much any more because I. Only get 5.00 a dozen for my eggs. I don’t think it offset the cost.

I could not dream to get $5/doz for my table eggs. I don't even try to sell them for eating anymore. I do sell hatching eggs, but rarely. Right now, I need most of those just to eat since I have so few laying.
