The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

This house is pretty much perfect as far as low maintenance goes. Has raised bed gardens, gated and paved driveway, large house in perfect condition 3/2, outbuilding, gorgeous landscaping already in place. The lot is only 1 acre, but no subdivision. It's on a very, very long main road, though not one heavily traveled. The price for what it is is pretty good, though more than I wanted to pay. Two issues: kitchen is rather small, but has gas stove, which we love. And it's in Murphy, NC, and a more remote part of it, which we are very familiar with, but really do not want to live there, though we are only 8/10 of a mi from the NC line. If I could find this in our county or the next GA county over, I'd be a happy camper, I tell you. This is all I could hope for as far as something Tom could handle with his health issues.

This is it! Looks perfect - everything you need right there both inside and outside. What's wrong with NC?

It has flock registration rules, first of all, not that I'd comply anyway. Second, that area of Murphy is a bit far out, not our favorite area. Here is where it is from my subdivision.

It sold for $152K in 2015. This is the plat map of the location on Hwy 294, a 2 lane road.

I doubt Tom would even look at it, considering the price and the out of the way location in Murphy. I'm not keen on Murphy myself. I found this by accident, really, wasn't even looking there. I went to a map view on Zillow and it included listings up into NC.

Brand new listing in one of our preferred areas, Blairsville, the next county. Our house without the basement area is 1088 sf, but only one bath in that area. This has about 30 sf less, but a second bath and laundry together, plus a separate garage.

Personally, I like the 3 bd house on 1 acre better, but this may be all for nothing. The more I look, the more Tom pulls back on it. He doesn't want to move. He's in for a rude awakening when I start hiring people to do work to the tune of a few thousand bucks around here.

In other news, seems my son's cheating wife is at it again. I don't believe she ever quit. She fell asleep while videochatting with some man in England and was making plans to fly out there at the end of the year. My son took photos of the conversation with his phone and confronted her, told her if she wanted to leave, do it NOW. So, the last message we got from him said "it looks like we'll be going out separate ways". Me, I'm fine with it since I never liked the lying skank anyway. He adored her so we kept our mouths shut for the past almost 20 years. She is 9 years older than he is, only 11 years younger than me and about as mature as a teenager.

I just told DH that if he wants to stay here, this place is going to change. I won't stay if nothing is done. I saved photos of that house on Hwy 294 with its gorgeous raised bed gardens and landscaping as examples of what I want to happen here if we don't move. I can handle my sons' not getting this place in some other way than to leave it.

Chickens are good. Perpetually broody Brandy is making me nuts (my broody-every-quarter Brahma). Gypsy is still doing great! She will be 11 in November if she makes it. My BR hen, Amanda, is 11 yrs 4 mos old and she laid 4 eggs this month. Amazing hen. So many ancient girls here now.

Wow. Yes ancient. Go Gypsy! Hubs and I were talking about her (Valerie) last night. It was a terrible conversation about who we mourned the most. How awful! Bad subject!

Mariska, my first hen, 10 1/2, Jersey, passed away. And the next day my little Polish girl , 10 yrs old passed. They lived very long good lives. I have one more who is 10-Princessfluffybritches who actually laid a bunch of eggs early summer. Unreal!

After all these years, and lots of big roosters, mainly Jerseys, I've met my match. This Polish roo just does NOT get who the alpha is. I have tried for a year and he still doesn't get it. He will be rehomed even if it's for chicken dinner. And he grabs his girls by the poof. So they hide a lot. I currently have 6 silkie roosters who are all friendly. Yea, 6. I hatched silkies a few years ago and got 7 roos and 3 hens! But I knew I would keep the roos beforehand. 4 of them live together just fine.

I have been looking where my daughter lives, outskirts of Louisville Ky, and New Albany Indiana. Beautiful and very well priced homes. I have been looking at 1940's houses that are all done. For 1500sq. ft, they run around $140k. Some are less room but closer to $100k. Some have property and some are "city" lots.

So I looked up chickens. In Louisville Ky city limits you can have 1 rooster and 4-5 hens. In New Albany , Indiana (just across the river) in city limits you can have hens and they didn't list how many, but it's on a very small lot.

The houses around that area like within a 20 mile area go for less than $100.00 a square foot and many have a nice tidy green grass acre or two yard.

speckled, my brother was that way about one of his druggy, skank wives. Even after she left him for someone else, and had been gone for years, he still had a trouble with it. If your son was really over her, he would be initiating a divorce, instead of letting her decide if she's staying, or leaving.

At the very least, your place does need a lift. Those stairs, and advancing age don't mix well. That change alone would make a huge difference.

When you have a certain criteria, it's not so easy to find suitable homes. That's partly why it took so long for us to find our place. We had to wait for it to become available. Now you see why I said to start your house hunting early, since it might take awhile to find the home you're wanting/needing, and be ready to grab it when it does hit the market.

I could grab if someone else was not pushing back. The other day he out of the blue says to me, "You know, I hate to say this...this place feels like home, but it's just so much work". So, then, I proceed to find something that isn't so much work and he acts like he never encouraged me at all. He needs to quit giving me mixed signals.

So sorry for your losses, Karen. I know a lot are coming for us, but honestly, it's really time for some of them. But, then there is Amanda still laying at going on 12 years old and crippled. She can still put a smackdown on her crippled rooomate, Snow, from over the barrier between their cage sections That crusty old hen is still bossy as heck. Gotta admire an old gal like that.

And Gypsy! She got Atlas all fired up and mad at her enough for him to start flogging the fence between them when I had her in a pen with Hector's daughters for a day. She was making these noises under her breath when Atlas came to flirt with her at the fence during one of his free range sessions. They "talked" for a bit, then I saw his hackles rise. Then, her hackles rose. Then, they began pecking at each other and when he began hitting the fence with his feet, I ran him off. What the heck did she say to him to make him so mad??? LOL.
