The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

So sorry about little Jenny. The D'anver boys are doing well, although they cried a bit for mommy last night. Betsy walked in and made herself at home, poor Cheyenne, on the other hand, has been relegated to lowest in the pecking order. Even Georgia picks on her. She spends a lot of time hiding in the nest boxes and is the first one on the roost at night. She will get used to it eventually, but I hate those first few days that new flock members have to go through to fit in. Reminds me of high school.

It can be dicey the first week in a new situation, but I know they're all in good hands!

Oh please don't need any reminders of HS, I still have nightmares about it - and I am 67, do they ever go away?" If only I could dream where they all are 67 too maybe I'd get over this.

Funny I never dream about high school, but I did have a weird dream last night about someone I knew .

In it I was on the phone with her son and then his guardian came on the line, at which point I realized she had passed away.

I explained that we had shown guinea pigs together and I'd forgotten she'd passed away. Told you it was weird.

Her son and I had rode the school bus together. "She" was his mother, we'd become friends years later when I was older.

BIG news! Atlas is CROWING! Well, it's like a one note kazoo, but hey, it comes with the big wing flap and everything, LOL.

He, Rachel and Rowena (and of course, Robin and Wendy, the blacks) will be 17 weeks old Friday.

This is Rachel. Not sure where Ro was, probably a dust hole.

And in completely unrelated news, I'm making and canning salsa for the very first time.

I didn't have my camera with me, it was so early! I actually was encouraging him to crow, saying stuff like C'mon, Atlas, crow for mama! And that little goober did it right then. I thought when Maverick left, he might find his voice.
