The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

How 'bout some smoked salmon and cream cheese to go on a slice (Finn might join us for the fish)?! I'm sure Atlas won't mind us distracting Sir SpoiledCat!

One was slathered with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar before being rolled into a loaf, so mildly sweet cinnamon bread. The other is just plain. I was trying to share a slice with Atlas and his girls, but dang that boy, he won't even take it from my hand if they are standing there. They jump for it like they're starving and Atlas would if they had anything to say about it, the wenches.

If you were here, you could have a few slices, diva. It's all we can do to keep from eating an entire loaf the day it's made. Off to make my french toast with it B4 taking Finn for his distemper booster this morning.

Cinnamon french toast, yum! Quick chicken question - are there any spices we should stay away from in treating them? I give my neighbor's hens a treat every day, and with this being baking season, is there anything I should be careful not to give them? Thanks.

Spices in baked goods/foods? Hmm, I don't recall any that are detrimental to chickens off hand. If I think of anything, I'll let you know, but don't think so.

The 35 Week Report on Atlas, Rowena and Rachel. Dottie is in there, too, of course. Rachel didn't go back to being broody so I did successfully break her up, thank goodness. I'm hoping that Atlas doesn't lose his beautiful fine comb points this winter, so far, so good. He could be a little rounder in the chest, longer in the back, tail a tad lower (gotten higher as he's aged) but he's a big boy and has turned into a very sweet guy at this age. His back shape reminds me a bit of a Jersey Giant, sort of U-shaped, due to its lack of length, I guess. I do like how his legs stand solidly wide apart. To me, as most know, temperament is paramount and his has mellowed into what I was hoping and expecting, with the genetics he possesses. Pretty is as pretty does, eh?

This photo especially shows what I was saying about the back shape.
