The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Maretta, my 1/2 BW Ameraucana hen hatched all four of her chicks as of this morning, three pure BRs and Sammie Jo's black chick. 100% hatch for both broodies, as usual. Wish incubators did as well-their only advantage is they can handle more than 40 eggs at a time.

I think 1muttsfan is correct. I think this pairing will give you similar results as Rex and the Stukel hens did, except you may see a chick that lo Delaware. But I do think all black chicks will be female, but some female chicks will be barred.

These BR chicks here are growing like weeds. One is a good bit bigger than the others. I am enjoying seeing the barring develop on the feathers.

Andrew! I was waiting for you to check in. Thanks for the input. One of the 7 week old cockerels here is HUGE, he just towers. I think the tall factor is a Delaware influence from great grandpa Isaac-that same one also feathered so fast compared to the other two males, also a Delaware trait. He still has good, straight barring but the white bars are wider, less refined.

Not that I am familiar with, are they a chicken farm?

Thanks Andrew, figuring that stuff out is a lot like math for me - not so good at math
They only have like 3 breeds of Plymouth I believe, they said they have barred from good shepard and xw poultry ranch
They're from New Boston Mi.

Those Columbian Rocks on there are from my friend, Scott, here in GA (Yard full 'o Rocks). They handle heat fairly well, I'd think. You could ask him-he lives at lower elevation than I do, an hour and a half west of me. The owner of Lesperance Farm is here on BYC, name is Stephanie, I think.
