You know, people never seize to amaze me anymore. I had 9 packing peanut cockerels that I raised to 12 weeks last year. They were leghorns. Pretty, but crazy. I listed them on craigslist and FB chicken swap. I had interest in one as a pet/alarm clock to replace his old red roo that had passed. He chose the cockerel with bent toes. I still see pics of him now and then and hear that his owner adores him. The other 8 were set up to go to a young man (I'm thinking 12 year old) "for his pens." Well, I'm not clueless, but I was to the point that they need to go, cut my losses and be done. He set things up to meet BEFORE a chicken swap he was attending. I have no doubt most or all were sold for a profit at the swap. I discounted them since he was taking them all. I set it up to my advantage to meet at a grocery store near me. That morning he asks if we can meet at the swap. No. Way. That is 30 minutes farther for me to basically give him these birds. And I don't do swaps. I get the shivers just thinking about having to go to the feed store after there has been a swap. He then tried to knock me down a dollar per cockerel that morning as well. If he would have been an adult I would have stopped right there and let the leghorns continue to roost in the pine tree. I chalked it up to him maybe being immature, but wow. Etiquette, people.
Sorry people are giving you such a hard time. You know I would take all 5 in a heartbeat if we lived closer!!
I hope all is well with your husband. We spent the night in the ER last weekend with my 4 year old. Not a fun place.
