The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Lizzie @ 22 weeks old. Her barring is as good as the originals, IMO. She's bulking up, too, finally.

Thank you, Isaiah! I hope this little gal gets better as she gets the rest of her feathers. Slowest feathering pullet I think I've had. Tessa just turned 6 weeks old yesterday. Though my plan is to give her to Deacon, if she is a good one and something happens to Deacon, it would be possible to put her with Atlas as a breeder alongside Lizzie.

Today, there is more color in comb and wattles. What gives on this chick? Too dark to be a properly colored cockerel and there should be zero chance I would get a single barred male from Atlas and these hens. I'm perplexed now. But, I have no explanation of a pullet coloring up this early (6 wks). Sigh. I can't win for losing lately. This is why I hatch as little as I do. Anyway, of course, more time will tell on the sex of Tessa/Teddy.

LOL!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!! They r the breed I have decided to stick with. They r great with kids and the roos tempermant is to die for.

Love a sweet-tempered rooster! Good choice. My little Xander is a hot mess. He hates to be picked up but he melts when I get my hands on him. And his dancing in circles with those feathered feet makes him look like an over-wound wind-up toy, LOL.

Rainy day. Had to get septic guys out to unblock a field line and they'll pump it tomorrow. Unexpected bill $665, but at least, we didn't get back-up into the basement. Silver lining there. Finished this quilted table runner and I think you chicken folks will like this one, especially those who love Wyandottes.

Funny, there are two color varieties of Wyandotte, the Silver Laced and the Columbian, represented, plus one that looks like Deacon. Not sure what breed he's supposed to be.

An acquaintance wanted me to be there to whelp her first litter. The mama was fine with it but didn't do a thing. So I was breaking the sacs, getting them to take the first big breath, cutting and clamping cords and telling her the gender. She had 4 males and 1 girl.

Woman was very upset when I checked the girl again and realized she had both sets of gender parts. I had never seen that before. To this day that woman tells people because I whelped her litter she got a freak in the batch and males instead of girls. She also had said she would compensate me for staying up all night delivering pups. I guess she meant I was lucky she drove me back home instead of making me walk.
