The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Now heaven knows I was nowhere near tops of my math class, but I do believe there are only 4 hens in this picture

one of these things is not like the others

No, see on the far right? If you look closely, there are two hens there (only one fluffy bum showing though). You'd have to click and look closer.

That's what should be there. The best beetle green sheen means they have a gold base color. My black Ameraucana has the same sheen. This was her sire, Scout. You can see his base color leaking through.
Beautiful. Is there a place I can go online to read about breed standards. I don't understand why you have to buy them?

Usually, breed clubs have the standard for their particular variety posted somewhere on their site, or someone has put them up somewhere. If you Google "Black Orpington Standard of Perfection", you'll probably find it somewhere.

For instance, I found this on a breeder's web page, but I'm not sure what country's standard this is, mentioning "yellow-legged varieties" since all Orps have white skin and none should ever have yellow legs, but you see the green sheen mentioned in regard to the blacks. What you don't want is a purple sheen.

Ok thank you!

Cyn does Red leakage cause more sheen too? My Black cockerel with red leakage is a lot more shiny than the one with out. I need better pics of them but the one with the red leakage looks all green when he is outside! They are both the same age.

Now that's a proper size rooster. He is beautiful.

He is the dantiest little thing! He and Luna are the smallest birds I have ever raised! My biggest roosters are my Bucks and holy cats are they gentle giants!

Awwww, what a cutie! Congrats, Isaiah!

Thanks Cyn! I absolutely love this little bird! He and Luna have went from skittish to nice little calm birds lol!
