The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Hopefully she will stop pushing it out

I actually was just gonna tell you the first one dropped last night some time!

Aww, can't wait to see the new ones!

So sorry to hear June is not doing well, Cyn.

Thanks, Michelle. It's part of having an aging hen population. I have never lost any to predators, at least not yet, but they tend to live up into their old lady issues. Gypsy is older than June but seems okay other than a stiff hock joint. Snow has lost the use of one leg to arthritis just like 10 yr old Amanda. And Panda is also 9 years old now, with Georgie at 8 yrs right behind them. Georgie seems spry, though, for her age. She has been taking over a lot of June's head hen duties for months, we've noticed, so she's already in position, large and in charge.

Maybe it's time for a Hector thread. He may soon be the only game in town, so to speak. And Thea is sounding more broody now. She went into a nest late so I'm watching to see if she stays overnight.

Loved the video! Oreo looks happy to have her new little gal. Thanks for the calf pics, I always look forward to them.

Hector will soon have his own thread. Trying to think of something to name it.

Apollo is no longer mine. He will have a larger group of hens, very importantly, unrelated hens, and someone who seems to take excellent care of his birds for a new owner. If Apollo behaves himself, he will have more hens as well later on since he will be replacing a RIR rooster who was used with BRs to make sex links. The choice was to either find more and unrelated hens for Apollo (which I can't see how right now), give his to Hector and leave him without any (not fair) or sell him to someone who already has completely unrelated hens for him and would take good care of him. I liked the guy-he did not mind answering my questions, thought I deserved to know how he'd be cared for, etc, so I felt good about him. I always hate when I have to let a bird go that I've raised up that far, which is very, very rarely. I get so attached. It was hard carrying him to the car because he was so nervous, but he'll calm down when he sees he has a real harem. And yesterday, I also sold a collection of Partridge Brahma eggs, the first sale off that bunch.

Thanks Getaclue!

I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS! THE HUGE RED BROCKLE FACE COW WE HAVE HAD TWINS! They should have been black but came out Red Brockle face?

The calf is adorable.

I know it's hard for you to part with Apollo, but I'm sure he'll settle in nicely, especially with his own harem.
Yes, it was very hard, but he'll be happier. No Hector or Atlas to torment him and lots of women!

congrats to your new cow-moms. Yes, I do love them, especially the boys for some bizarre reason.

Thanks Getaclue!
