Thanks, Mary. DH is suffering for it tonight, of course, but in the long run, it will help with managing the very crippled hens.

Going in the a.m. to get my bridge put on, then getting a few groceries on the way home, so will be gone until mid afternoon tomorrow.

We culled another older hen today, she was getting too bad. Poopy butt, and ascites. I'm running out of old birds.

I'm sorry, Lisa. You know when it's time. They seem to tell you. Snow and Amanda can still push their weight around when necessary, very feisty. Georgie's abdomen is huge and when she sits down, her breathing is so labored, but she makes a beeline for Tom in the hammock and literally wraps herself around him. Delawares are such huggers. I don't think she'll make it to her 9th hatch-day, but she still is 2nd in command after June. I sort of think that I'll lose both June and Georgie close together, June being a year older than Georgie. I may try to drain Georgie if she seems okay, but her belly becomes a real drag on her, but only to help her walk and breathe better; it certainly won't fix anything.

I hate going to the dentist for several reasons, but one is that I have to travel an hour and a half to get there and back so it's 3 hours on the road, plus the time in the chair. Ruins an entire day. The dentists in the office are good, though.

3 hours is my upper tolerance level for being away from home. Anything longer and I start getting crabby. That's a long trip.

My hen looked very miserable, she was my only chick out of my favorite rose comb RIR hen and a barred rock rooster. She looked just like a barred Wyandotte. I will miss her quirky personality.

Must have been a cool looking hen. Well, she's not suffering anymore.

I'm with you. when the kids were home, I was always running on errands and when I was a realtor, it was even worse. Now, I get itchy if I do one or two errands and want to just teleport back home.

How did it go?

Went fine. The lab did a stupendous job on the bridge, looks so real, color is perfect. My mouth is a little sore from all the on-and-off while the dentist shaped it so dental floss would not stick. But, I'm exhausted.
I checked the two crop sickies. Their crops are way down, especially Betsy's. Think good thoughts that they'll continue to improve so they can begin gaining back their weight. Poor Betsy, especially, has been through the wringer!
