The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

The first block of my latest project. Not all will have stars in them. Says Spring to me!

A lot of people who have high cholesterol have the genetic version, which can't be controlled with diet.
I hate to keep mentioning chemo, but when I was going through it my cholesterol went up over 300. My doctor said that stress will alter your cholesterol as well. There are lots of factors that affect cholesterol and they aren't sharing.

Mine was perfect until the hypothyroidism, so apparently, it's genetic. I hate that. I eat well most of the time.

I'd never heard anyone say that about chemo and cholesterol. Very interesting.

You are correct 1mutts. The genetic version of high cholesterol is not a result of diet, so while diet does make a little difference, it's usually not enough to keep it fully under control.

I've heard all the diatribe from the anti-vaxxers, and double checked a lot of their facts. Their facts simply don't hold up. I got my flu shot this year, and glad I did. As I said, it's been many years since I had one, but it was important to get one THIS year. We'll see what next year holds, as to whether I'll get another one. I don't intend to die, or be overly impacted by an illness that can be cured, or rendered significantly less severe, when there's a shot, or pill that will solve the problem. If that sounds like I take a lot of medications, I don't. I take 2 pills that work in conjunction with each other, that block my hormone receptors, so those hormones don't trigger my cancer to become active again. That's it. I don't even take an Advil unless I absolutely have to, so it's not like I'm advocating big pharma, but there are times, and treatments that actually do the job.

I don't consider myself an "anti-vaxxer" in regard to the old time vaccines that I and my own kids took, the MMR ones and polio vaccines that were proven over generations, however, the newer ones are what I take issue with and the fact that the government gets 75 cents with every single vaccine given is suspect to me. That is ostensibly to go into a fund to pay out to folks harmed by vaccines, however, I've never heard what is happening to the money collected that is not paid out. Where is the oversight? The more they push this vaccine and that vaccine, all relatively new, especially ones like the HPV vaccine that I would sooner die than allow my own child to take, the more I push back. And kids are getting many times more vaccines as babies that their little bodies cannot handle than ever before. I truly believe that many issues like learning disabilties, ADHD, etc, may be linked to the heavy metal poisoning in those vaccines. And it's not just average people saying it, it's medical doctors who didn't take them at face value and dug for more information saying so. I really think caution is in order.

I'm sure yours is related to the hypothyroidism, and not genetic. Thyroid affects your metabolism, so you can have

Yeah, sucks to be me, as my doctor sort of put it. My former 150 reading shot up to 220 after my thyroid went haywire. No amount of cholesterol-lowering foods and avoiding cholesterol-raising foods would put a dent in it. But, I am not convinced that a higher reading is always a scary thing, certainly not if it's genetic. I mean, I eat good stuff, almost no red meat now and I actually like oatmeal, and of course, we grow a lot of food that we can ourselves, try to stay away from convenience foods, other than maybe some canned soups in winter when we're ill and can't want anything else.

Another thing I hate pushed on us is fluoride. It's a poison but unless you buy the very few fluoride-free toothpastes on the market like I do or make your own as I have in the past, you can't get away from it. Even mouthwashes have it in there. It messes with the thyroid, imagine that. And some say that in the concentration camps, Hitller used to dose the prisoners with fluoride because it was known to keep them compliant, but others say it's an urban myth of sorts. If you really look at the warnings on fluoride, it is definitely a poison, though. Why are we forced to brush our teeth with insecticide?

I know that vaccines are a very "emotional" topic on which folks have very strong opinions.

That being said, I encourage folks to read the history and statistics so that the opinion you form could be based on facts.

Has anyone read this book? If not, I highly recommend reading it and some other documents before making a final conclusion. Often what we have been taught just isn't the whole truth.

That's what bugs me the most, the lies to keep money flowing into pockets at the expense of others, prolonging suffering unnecessarily. I believe that there is a cure for cancer and that they would never allow it to come out because it would tank an entire industry. That is unforgivable!

ETA: I don't have any serious health issues like heart problems or bouts with cancer so I may do things differently if I had different health issues, but maybe not. The manager at the co-op, April, had open heart surgery unexpectedly last year. This year, her doctor begged her to get the flu shot. Me, I'd probably still balk at it, but she felt maybe a little scared not to do it. I understand that.
