The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Broody Bonnie. I'm not going to let Maretta go again, though she's clucking. She's 7 years old and I think it's too soon for her to do it all over again, but I may allow Bonnie since she's proven. And I'll avoid B.J.'s eggs in that batch.

Eggs are a-shaking' in the bator! Going into Day 20 tomorrow.

Oh, Tulips! :love
My backyard is still completely under snow. And this spring / winter storm passing through is supposed to give us another six inches or so. I did see a robin a few days ago, the only one I've seen this year, looks like he made a reservation at the wrong Resort.

It is far easier for people to be ugly, ignorant, rude, intolerant bigots online. I imagine most of them are cowards who would never say such things to someone's face. :hmm

Hope you get a great hatch, and sorry for the immature people being so mean to you.

Eh, he wasn't even caring about the subject, just wanted to harass someone, not the first time it's happened, won't be the last. Could be just a kid acting big behind his keyboard. Probably needs a spanking, LOL.

I've seen one egg rocking, the same egg over and over again. Hope to see some action tomorrow. Off to bed to read myself to sleep. G'nite, friends.

So well said. It’s worse to let an animal suffer painfully instead of a quick merciful end. My sick hen Jane is still hanging in there. I’ve had to think of what I’d do if she gets to the point of constant suffering and won’t die herself. I really hope it doesn’t come to that. She’s still eating and drinking and walking around the run with the others, and just gets hunched up and looking uncomfortable some of the day.

So excited to see the new baby chicks!

We got a bit of snow yesterday, but luckily it was all melted by today. Silly spring weather.

And I’m pretty sure the 3 chicks we were given are white leghorns, and my guess is 2 females and 1 male, but it’s still early. They’re around 3-4 weeks.

@kitkat5505 Of course, the video in question was specific to newly hatched chicks less than a week old who are not thriving or have deformities, etc. As long as Jane is functioning and seems to have interest in life and her fellow coop-mates, that's probably the best place for her. I let them live their lives as long as they can. If they become unresponsive or have a terrible situation like my Carly did, seizing constantly and unable to steady herself to eat, then we act.

If they're Leghorns, the pullets always seems to have pretty big combs, too, but the difference in them is where you can sex those. If one is obviously different, that's your clue, I'd say.
