The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I haven't been outside yet, but the snow must be very coarse, I can hear it hitting the roof and it sounds like sandpaper[/QUOTE]

:hmm

No pips yet. Day 20. Brooder ready for occupancy. I doubt all 22 remaining eggs will hatch, but I hope most do. I may sell half of the Brahmas right away if someone wants those, just so I don't have so many to brood. I have several on the chicken swap page on FB waiting for them. One guy said he didn't mind straight run so he may jump in and buy a few chicks, if enough hatch to halve the batch, that is. I need to keep Hector's kids to pick out a pullet or two, if I get a couple of those. I wish there would be more pullets than cockerels in there, certainly, easier to sell extras, but Hector needs to have a couple more hens. Two is not enough. He rarely even breeds Thea, which is odd.

Guy likes to pick his own girlfriends.

Just got back in from morning chores. It is not actually snowing, those are tiny little ice pellets - the ground temp is 22, but the upper levels of air must be much warmer. Supposed to pretty much do this all day, which I much prefer to an ice storm.

I hope you get lots of pullet too! my eggs are only Day 3.

@kitkat5505If they're Leghorns, the pullets always seems to have pretty big combs, too, but the difference in them is where you can sex those. If one is obviously different, that's your clue, I'd say.

One has gotten feathers in slower and has a very slightly pinker comb, so that’s the one I’m thinking is male, so we’ll see if I’m guessing right as they get older. :)

I'm not sure if you can insert a GI here, but this is my yard this morning

Oh my! Sorry about that weather! Brrr

I hope you get some more pullets for Hector, and that he’ll accept them. That’s great you’ve already got interest in the brahmas.

The Brahmas of this color variety seem to garner quite a bit of interest. Even the males are easier to sell. I had some folks left from before the beginning of the year who wanted trios and pairs so they're waiting to see what I have to offer.

The drifts out to my shed is 5 feet high, my husband managed to dig a pathway that I hope doesn't drift in by 3 when I have to go back out by myself. Still coming down, expecting a foot or more yet.

Where is the dislike button on that one? Ack! Reminds me of my last winter in Utah, 100" of snow, snow mountains on either side of the driveway for months.

This shouldn't be happening this late, it really shouldn't. So much for hopes of an early garden. I just hope it all goes away in the next 2 weeks as we will run out of hay, and I really don't want to buy any. Quality is usually poor. Come on spring, you can do it. :fl
