The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I got a nice email from sandhill. They offering to replace all my blue Orpingtons I ordered last year. They replaced them with blue jersey giants but these are not jersey giants. I finally wrote an email complaining about them. He checked his records and the day my order was packed was the day his wife was seriously ill. He had someone help him. Apparently my order was not the only one messed up. I had no idea what had but now they are adults and they are not jersey giants.

Gee, what do you think they are? Weird. .

I have to do the Zometa. It's a much stronger, infusion version of Reclast. I'm real sick for about 4 days after the infusion, then I'm fine. I did it once last year, but I'm suppose to do it twice a year. It's really rough on me those few days right after the infusion, but I have to admit, it has done the job.

I have no idea I told him a couple havefeathing down their legs so he said maybe blue maran? One splash one looks like a bad orpington. My blue Americaunas look pretty good. My cuckoo marans and barred holland I just don’t know. Problem is I hatched some out at the same time plus hatched bought eggs. I couldn5 keep the, straight but I the feathered legs ones were from sandhill. It took me a long time to really be sure they were not jersey giants.

I do have some beautiful colored eggs. Olive, blue green, mauvish pink. Super dark brown. So that is good. And everyone is friendly.

Post some pictures, we can compare them to their breed list.

I know his wife was very ill last year. They are a small operation and any employee shortage in the spring really affects their chick availability and ability to ship.
Yes I know I have read their blog. His wife is lucky to be alive. The day my order got shipped was the day his wife landed back in ICU. SO A HELPER helped him. I am glad he is offering to replace them. A couple of people out here would like some splash Orpingtons. Papas poultry was interested in my blue Roos but with newcastle going around everyone is scared to add birds in.

Latest from my son. He owes federal tax because he was divorced 3 weeks before the end of the year and has to file single. Hardly seems fair. But, he posted this today:

Never thought the day would come where I would be ready to sell my house and move on, but it’s here. Time to downsize. 4 bedroom house with just me and my dogs is no longer practical.

That makes sense. In addition, there are a lot of memories there. I agree, it's time for him to sell, and get another place for him, and the dog. Maybe there will be enough equity, it will pay off most of the mortgage on the new place.

He won't have enough equity to pay off most of the mortgage in the area he lives in-he says he has about 80K equity and he needs an upstairs HVAC unit plus new carpet in there. He upgraded during the time they lived there with hardwoods in part of the house that didn't have them plus granite countertops, but that won't offset much of anything. He needs a one-level house where the utilities are cheaper. An open floor plan on one level will cut way down on his utility bills. And he just needs a fenced yard for Ghost and Sophie.
