The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Wow it's quite around here! Cheryl, hope you are not buried under many feet of snow.

My friend and I crossed the ice to Mackinac Island yesterday, we took the 5-mile "B" line that is only used in years with really good ice. The regular rout, to British Landing, is 3 1/2 miles, which we returned on. There is so much snow this year the sledding is great.

It is quite something being out that far from shore, surrounded by miles of bleak ice. Sometimes the ice pings and groans, deep whale-like mutterings which honestly makes the hair on my neck stand up. Must be like what a desert feels like. Only really, really cold.

It's 86 here today. I did not mention it on this thread, but I've been super busy. My 3 year old grandbaby just had her appendix removed. She's home now, and doing fine. She had to go to her doctor today for a follow up exam.

Awhile back, we were having a bit of trouble with the toilets. I fixed mine, and Dh fixed his. When his fix didn't work, he bought another kit, and re-did his toilet. I told him that was not the problem, and I would get the part he needed. He got a bit rude to me about it, so he was on his own. Well, night before last, the bathroom flooded all over the place. Not just in the bathroom, but down the hall, and into 2 of the bedrooms. He got the shop vac, stopped the toilet from running over, grabbed the shop vac, and was hollering for me to help. I laughed at him, reminded him of his insults, and refused to help him. He shut up then, got all the water up, and put extra fans on to dry out behind the baseboards. Cleaning up the water is one thing, but it's still sewage water, so later that night, while he was at work, I spent hours scrubbing, and disinfecting everything. Tomorrow I need to go to town, so I will get the part he needs to fix his toilet. That's so I don't have to scrub, and disinfect repeatedly.

So what's been going on around your place, speckledhen?

Just treading water waiting for winter to be over. Husband has been in a lot of pain lately. Birds are stuck inside for a couple of days of frigid weather, but egg production is on the rise. Of course, all my pear and peach blooms have probably been killed now and they were awesome, but came out way too early with very warm weather we were teased by a couple of weeks ago.
Found out my son in S.Korea is coming home for the first time in years this July for a week of vacation so have to get the basement bedroom cleaned out and finish working on the bathroom down there, but we have four months.
Michael seems to be doing well for the most part. He notified his ex of the 13 boxes he got back and asked her what she wanted him to do with them, but she has not replied. We said go through them all and remove stuff of his that she took, then tell her parents to come get the rest, or offer for them to do it. They may say dispose of the rest, they're so fed up with her.

I'd recommend removing his belongings, then dropping off the rest at the ex-inlaws, thereby relieving him of any responsibility for what happens to it, having done due diligence in passing it on to her closest relatives.

Cold up here too - below zero every morning this week so far, not much warmer during the day. How we long for a little sunlight.

They live on the street right behind him so they can come get whatever is left, if they even want to. They always say how proud they are of him, how much they love him. They seem so disappointed in her. If they don't want to even deal with them, he'll have more stuff for his garage sale or to just donate.
